Representations and derivations of quasi ∗-algebras induced by local modifications of states

Abstract The relationship between the GNS representations associated to states on a quasi ∗-algebra, which are local modifications of each other (in a sense which we will discuss) is examined. The role of local modifications on the spatiality of the corresponding induced derivations describing the dynamics of a given quantum system with infinite degrees of freedom is discussed.

Quantum light depolarization: the phase-space perspective

2008

Quantum light depolarization is handled through a master equation obtained by coupling dispersively the field to a randomly distributed atomic reservoir. This master equation is solved by transforming it into a quasiprobability distribution in phase space and the quasiclassical limit is investigated.

Numerical expressions for the computation of coincidence-summing correction factors in γ-ray spectrometry with HPGe detectors

Numerical expressions to compute gamma-gamma and gamma-X(K) coincidence summing corrections were deduced by using a suitable computer program and a matrix representation of a decay scheme. For point sources only full-energy peak and total efficiencies are needed. Alternatively, values of peak-to-total ratio can be introduced. For extended sources, the same expressions can be considered with the introduction of "effective efficiencies". Examples of the use of the expressions for point sources and a particulate filter sample measured with a 60% relative efficiency HPGe detector are reported.

Analysis of inhomogeneously filled waveguides using a bi-orthonormal-basis method

A general theoretical formulation to analyze inhomogeneously filled waveguides with lossy dielectrics is presented in this paper. The wave equations for the tranverse-field components are written in terms of a nonself-adjoint linear operator and its adjoint. The eigenvectors of this pair of linear operators define a biorthonormal-basis, allowing for a matrix representation of the wave equations in the basis of an auxiliary waveguide. Thus, the problem of solving a system of differential equations is transformed into a linear matrix eigenvalue problem. A rigorous and efficient full-wave analysis of uniform bends in rectangular waveguide under arbitrary incidence

In this paper, a rigorous full-wave analysis of uniform bends in rectangular waveguides is performed. An accurate and efficient method-of-moments solution combined with the generalized-admittance-matrix (GAM) formulation is proposed in order to achieve a full-wave characterization of the analyzed structures. This full-wave modal solution turns out to be necessary for modeling complex microwave devices involving an arbitrary number of discontinuities between curved and straight waveguides, where all the modes of the involved guides are excited.
