Abstract When the shutdown of a plant, or part of it, has been decided as consequence of a major fault, the generation of a safe shutdown schedule may be, for large and complex plants, a very difficult and delicate task. The same problem may be found when the plant must be restarted after the fault has been repaired, for the generation of a start-up schedule. The use of a knowledge-based system appears to be a suitable answer to this problem, allowing a high level of safety and a very fast generation process. An adaptive multimeme algorithm for designing HIV multidrug therapies.

This paper proposes a period representation for modeling the multidrug HIV therapies and an Adaptive Multimeme Algorithm (AMmA) for designing the optimal therapy. The period representation offers benefits in terms of flexibility and reduction in dimensionality compared to the binary representation. The AMmA is a memetic algorithm which employs a list of three local searchers adaptively activated by an evolutionary framework. Abstract In this paper, an active Fault Tolerant Tracking Controller (FTTC) scheme dedicated to vehicle dynamics system is proposed. To address the challenging problem, an uncertain dynamic model of the vehicle is firstly developed, by considering the lateral forces nonlinearities as a Takagi–Sugeno (TS) representation, the sideslip angle as unmeasurable premise variables and the road bank angle as an unknown input. The multi-armed bandit problem has been studied for decades. In brief, a gambler repeatedly pulls one out of N slot machine arms, randomly receiving a reward or a penalty from each pull. The aim of the gambler is to maximize the expected number of rewards received, when the probabilities of receiving rewards are unknown. This exploration is biased in accentuating influences relevant to tools and mathematics education. The chapter presents a broad landscape and focuses on selected technological advances, ideas and people that are considered important. The chapter begins with a section charting developments in mathematics, computing and education followed by a section on intellectual trends relevant to understanding tools and tool use. The final section focuses on the development of ideas in mathematics education regarding tools and tool use.

We express the compatibility conditions that a Poisson bivector and a Nijenhuis tensor must fulfil in order to be a Poisson-Nijenhuis structure by means of a graded Lie bracket. This bracket is a generalization of Schouten and Frolicher-Nijenhuis graded Lie brackets defined on multivector fields and on vector valued differential forms respectively.
