Those Are Lasers That Were Their Eyes

2019

In a Cultural Studies perspective, this essay proposes an intertextual reading of sea-change and representations of the Moor in literature, folklore, visual and decorative arts, and fashion theory studies, as interpreted by William Shakespeare, the artist duo Invernomuto, and fashion designers Dolce & Gabbana.

Characterizations of {K,s+1}-Potent Matrices and Applications

2012

Recently, situations where a matrix coincides with some of its powers have been studied. This kind of matrices is related to the generalized inverse matrices. On the other hand, it is possible to introduce another class of matrices that involve an involutory matrix, generalizing the well-known idempotent matrix, widely useful in many applications. In this paper, we introduce a new kind of matrices called {K,s+1}-potent, as an extension of the aforementioned ones. First, different properties of {K,s+1}-potent matrices have been developed. Later, the main result developed in this paper is the characterization of this kind of matrices from a spectral point of view, in terms of powers of the ma…

Circular Economy and Value Creation: Sustainable Finance with a Real Options Approach

2021

This paper presents a methodological proposal that integrates the circular economy concept and financial valuation through real options analysis. The Value Hill model of a circular economy provides a representation of the course followed by the value of an asset. Specifically, after the primary use, the life of an asset may be extended by going through four phases: the 4R phases (Reuse, Refurbish, Remanufacture and Recycle). Financial valuation allows us to quantify value creation from firms’ asset circularity under uncertainty, modelled by binomial trees. Furthermore, the 4R phases are valued as real options by applying no-arbitrage opportunity arguments. The major contribution of this pap…

Representation of physical activity domains and sedentary behaviors across categories of gender and disability in children’s TV cartoons

2018

Television (TV) cartoons could reflect and shape social values about children’s health-related behaviors. The main aim of this study is to analyze the portrayal of physical activity (PA) domains in the most popular Spanish children’s television (TV) cartoons. It is performed a content analysis of each scene following a coding scheme. The sample selected included the five most popular children’s TV cartoons for the 2013-2014 period in Spain. Our results show a large gap between the modest representation of different PA domains compared to the overwhelming depiction of sedentary behaviors. We do not find evidence of males and females participating equally in a variety of PA domains, and we fa…

The equilibrium structure and fundamental vibrational frequencies of dioxirane

1998

Complete sets of quadratic and cubic force constants calculated for four isotopomers of dioxirane (CH2OO) are used to estimate vibration-rotation interaction contributions to observed values of rotational constants (B″), thereby yielding empirical estimates of the corresponding equilibrium values (Be). At the highest levels of theory, least-squares refinements of atomic coordinates to both the empirical Be values and the associated isotope shifts yield consistent sets of structural parameters. Recommended values are re(CO)=1.3846±0.0005 A; re(OO)=1.5133±0.0005 A; re(CH)=1.0853±0.0015 A and θe(HCH)=117.03±0.20°. Preliminary investigations on indirect competition among Italian employers’ associations, and the relevant effects on collective bargaining

2022

Jason Intentional Learning: An Operational Semantics

2013

This paper introduces an operational semantics for defining Intentional Learning on Jason, the well known Java-based implementation of AgentSpeak(L). This semantics enables Jason to define agents capable of learning the reasons for adopting intentions based on their own experience. In this work, the use of the term Intentional Learning is strictly circumscribed to the practical rationality theory where plans are predefined and the target of the learning processes is to learn the reasons to adopt them as intentions. Top-Down Induction of Logical Decision Trees (TILDE) has proved to be a suitable mechanism for supporting learning on Jason: the first-order representation of TILDE is adequate t…

Subject, World and Value

2010

Verbal and visual representations in task redesign: how different viewpoints enter into information systems design discussions

2005

We explore an important phase of information systems design (ISD), namely task redesign, and especially how different viewpoints enter into the dis- cussions. We study how one particular visual representation, a process diagram, is interpreted and how alternative, even competing, representations are produced verbally. To tie the visual and verbal representations and the representational prac- tices to wider social practices, we develop and use the Extended Three-dimen- sional Model of discourse. Visual representations emerged as focal in bringing in the different viewpoints and as reference points for discussions. Our model pro- vided a focused and powerful means to unveil for the outside r…

The role of social report for performance measurement of museums: an Italian survey from the web

2017

This paper aims to explore the concept of performance in the museum field, in particular whether and how it could find an adequate representation through social reporting tools. The social reports, indeed, in non-profit and public sector organisations are typically considered the main tools for institutional communication. To investigate on this topic, we analyse the social reports of some Italian museums using the content analysis in order to understand how the performance is evaluated and communicated. The empirical findings show how the reports are not fully able to represent the performance of the museums.
