NONVANISHING ELEMENTS FOR BRAUER CHARACTERS

Let $G$ be a finite group and $p$ a prime. We say that a $p$-regular element $g$ of $G$ is $p$-nonvanishing if no irreducible $p$-Brauer character of $G$ takes the value $0$ on $g$. The main result of this paper shows that if $G$ is solvable and $g\in G$ is a $p$-regular element which is $p$-nonvanishing, then $g$ lies in a normal subgroup of $G$ whose $p$-length and $p^{\prime }$-length are both at most 2 (with possible exceptions for $p\leq 7$), the bound being best possible. Visual information flow in Wilson-Cowan networks.

In this paper, we study the communication efficiency of a psychophysically tuned cascade of Wilson-Cowan and divisive normalization layers that simulate the retina-V1 pathway. This is the first analysis of Wilson-Cowan networks in terms of multivariate total correlation. The parameters of the cortical model have been derived through the relation between the steady state of the Wilson-Cowan model and the divisive normalization model. Determining the optimal maximal and submaximal voluntary contraction tests for normalizing the erector spinae muscles

Background This study aimed to identify which maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) and sub-MVIC tests produce the highest activation of the erector spinae muscles and the greatest reduction in inter-individual variability, to put them forward as reference normalization maneuvers for future studies. Methods Erector spinae EMG activity was recorded in 38 healthy women during five submaximal and three maximal exercises. Results None of the three MVIC tests generated the maximal activation level in all the participants. Initial state azimuthal anisotropies in small collision systems

Strong multiparticle azimuthal correlations have recently been observed in high energy proton-nucleus collisions. While final state collective effects can be responsible for many of the observations, the domain structure in the classical color field of a high energy nucleus also naturally leads to such correlations. We describe recent calculations of the momentum space 2-particle cumulant azimuthal anisotropy coefficients v_n{2}, n=2,3,4 from fundamental representation Wilson line distributions describing the high energy nucleus. On the pion cloud of the nucleon

We evaluate the two--pion contribution to the nucleon electromagnetic form factors by use of dispersion analysis and chiral perturbation theory. After subtraction of the rho--meson component, we calculate the distributions of charge and magnetization in coordinate space, which can be interpreted as the effects of the pion cloud. We find that the charge distribution of this pion cloud effect peaks at distances of about 0.3 fm. Furthermore, we calculate the contribution of the pion cloud to the isovector charges and radii of the nucleon.

Chiral Symmetry of Baryons

We study chiral symmetry aspects of the positive and negative parity baryons by identifying them with linear representations of the chiral group $SU(N_{f}) \otimes SU(N_{f})$. It is shown that there are two distinctive schemes: naive and mirror assignments. We construct linear sigma models for baryons in the two assignments and examine their physical implications. Then we investigate properties of the naive and mirror nucleons microscopically by using QCD interpolating fields. Finally, we propose experiments to distinguish the two chiral assignments for the nucleon.

Muon Anomaly from Lepton Vacuum Polarization and The Mellin--Barnes Representation

We evaluate, analytically, a specific class of eighth--order and tenth--order QED contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. They are generated by Feynman diagrams involving lowest order vacuum polarization insertions of leptons $l=e,\mu$, and $\tau$. The results are given in the form of analytic expansions in terms of the mass ratios $m_e/m_\mu$ and $m_\mu/m_\tau$. We compute as many terms as required by the error induced by the present experimental uncertainty on the lepton masses. Gradings on the algebra of upper triangular matrices of size three

Abstract Let UT 3 ( F ) be the algebra of 3 × 3 upper triangular matrices over a field F . On UT 3 ( F ) , up to isomorphism, there are at most five non-trivial elementary gradings and we study the graded polynomial identities for such gradings. In case F is of characteristic zero we give a complete description of the space of multilinear graded identities in the language of Young diagrams through the representation theory of a Young subgroup of S n . We finally compute the multiplicities in the graded cocharacter sequence for every elementary G -grading on UT 3 ( F ) .
