Kontrastverstärkte dreidimensionale MR-Angiographie der A. carotis bei 1,0 Tesla im Vergleich zuri.a. DSA - ist die Methode für die Diagnostik von Ka…

2001

Artery Disease? Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of three-dimensional, contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA) of the carotid artery with a 1.0 system in comparison to intra-arterial conventional angiography (i.a.CA) for the assessment of carotid artery disease. Method: 55 patients with suspected stenosis of the carotid artery were examined with a 3D-CE gradient-echo sequence on a 1.0 T scanner (TR/TE = 6.2/2.2 ms) and a selective DSA i.a. angiography. Image quality was evaluated by estimating the arterial contrast and venous enhancement. Morphological pathologies were registered for all arteries, stenoses of the internal carotid artery were graded by applying the NASCET …

ICD Implantation in Noncompaction of the Left Ventricular Myocardium: A Case Report

2009

Isolated noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium (INVM) is an uncommon cardiomyopathy characterized by the persistence of fetal myocardium with prominent trabecular meshwork and deep intertrabecular recesses, often associated with systolic dysfunction and ventricular dilatation. A 23-year-old man from Burkina Faso was referred to our operative unit with a diagnosis of INVM, made with echocardiogram and magnetic resonance imaging and nonsustained ventricular tachycardia. The literature reports the incidence of malignant ventricular arrhythmias in as many as 47% of the patients and sudden cardiac death in almost 50% of them and this supported our decision to perform implantable cardiovert…

The efficacy of Ozone Therapy on different types of lumbar disc herniation : Proposal for guidance updates [abstract]

2018

Objective: To explore the possible mechanisms of pain relief by ozone therapy in patients with different types of lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion.
Methods: The medical records of a total of 250 patients with protrusion of lumbar intervertebral disc (159 males, 91 females, aged 14–85 years) admitted in the South Hospital from January 2009 to June 2014 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with protrusion of lumbar intervertebral disc were divided into four groups according to T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging and digital subtraction angiography findings during ozone injection: type I, fibrous ring rupture without nucleus pulposus protrusion; type II, fibrous ring rupture w…

Magnetic resonance imaging in the assessment of brain involvement in alcoholic and nonalcoholic Wernicke's encephalopathy

2017

AIM To present the typical and atypical magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings of alcoholic and non-alcoholic Wernicke’s encephalopathy. METHODS This study included 7 patients with Wernicke’s encephalopathy (2 men, 5 women; mean age, 52.3 years) that underwent brain MR examination between January 2012 and March 2016 in a single institution. Three patients were alcoholics and 4 patients were non-alcoholics. MR protocol included a T2-weighted sequence, a fluid attenuation inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequence, a diffusion-weighted sequence (b = 0 and 1000 s/mm2), and a contrast-enhanced MR sequence. All MR images were retrospectively reviewed at baseline and follow-up by two radiologists. RES…

Abstract P153: Early Changes in Left-Atrial and Left-Ventricular Geometry and Function in Women After Preeclampsia as Detected by Cardiac Magnetic Re…

2019

Objectives: Preeclampsia (PE), the leading cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, is associated with an increased long-term risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). We aimed to characterize myocardium and investigate potential functional and structural cardiac alterations in asymptomatic women after PE using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. Methods and Results: We performed a post-pregnancy case-control study (clinicaltrials.gov ID: NCT03313063). In total, 22 cases and 23 controls were recruited. Participants were matched by age, BMI and parity. Hemodynamic and morphologic characteristics of the myocardium were assessed using established and innovative CMR te…

Regionäre Lymphknotenmetastasen maligner Kopf-Hals-Tumoren:

1991

Sonography and computed tomography are used in staging of lymph nodes of patients with head and neck cancer. The accuracy of sonography (90%) and computed tomography (85%) is comparable or better than the palpatory accuracy (85%). The better delineation of reactive swollen cervical nodes leads to a higher sensitivity of sonography (90%) and computed tomography (84%) versus palpation (74%), but a lower specifity (palpation 94%, sonography 90%, computed tomography 86%). A literature survey shows that sonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of cervical lymph nodes are comparable good methods.

Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Demonstrates Reversible Atrial Dysfunction After Catheter Ablation of Persistent Atrial Fibrillation

2013

Reversible Dysfunction After Persistent AF Ablation Introduction There is a paucity of data on atrial injury following ablation of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). This study aimed at assessing reversibility of atrial dysfunction after successful persistent AF ablation using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). Methods and Results CMR was performed during sinus rhythm (SR) in 20 consecutive patients with persistent AF at baseline (BL) within 24 hours after ablation and after 6-month follow-up (FU). Catheter ablation included atrial substrate modification using the stepwise approach following pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) in order to attempt termination of persistent AF. Active left…

Discordancia clínico-radiológica y resolución espontánea de un hematoma postcateterización epidural

2008

Neuraxial techniques are considered safe if certain guidelines are followed, but they are not risk free. We report the case of an 81-year-old woman with an invasive bladder tumor who underwent radical cystectomy with a Bricker-type procedure. General anesthesia was used and epidural analgesia was also provided for surgical and postoperative pain management. Late in the postoperative recovery period a large epidural hematoma was diagnosed based on radiologic signs of spinal cord compression, in the absence of symptoms other than mild and progressive back pain that developed after extubation. The surgeon decided against emergency surgery to reduce compression. Symptoms resolved gradually, and…
