Purpose To report a case of unilateral exudative retinal detachment as the sole presentation of relapsing B-type lymphoblastic leukemia in a 35-year-old man after 3 years of remission. Methods Case report. Results A 35-year-old man in complete remission of high-risk type B acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL-B) presented with acute vision loss in his left eye. Exudative retinal detachment was diagnosed at initial evaluation. Hematological and ocular studies were performed. The risk of abducens palsy after diagnostic lumbar puncture.

Abducens palsy occasionally has been observed after diagnostic lumbar puncture (DLP).1-3 Its risk is not exactly known. We are aware of only one report, which mentions not a single case among 1,341 DLPs when using 22-gauge needles.4 At our clinic, an average of 800 inpatients a year undergo DLP. We usually use 22-gauge needles, and occasionally (in less than 5%), 20-gauge needles. Over a 14.5-year period, we saw two patients with abducens palsy—one unilateral, one bilateral—after DLP. The relationship between functional disability and health-related quality of life in patients with a rotator cuff tear

To determine the relationship between functional disability and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in rotator cuff tear (RCT) patients.In 67 RCT patients (mean age, 54 years; 57% males), functional disability was self-reported with the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Standardized Shoulder Assessment Form (ASES), HRQoL with the Short-Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36), and pain by visual analogue scale. Imaging the visual autokinetic illusion with fMRI

During fixation of a stationary, dim light-emitting diode (LED) in complete darkness, a subtle, apparent motion is perceived which is called autokinesis. This autokinetic illusion increases with increasing fixation time. Eleven healthy subjects were examined by fMRI while fixating an LED in darkness for 35 s. BOLD signal changes of the first and the second half of the fixation period were compared. While the stimulus was the same for both periods, perception differed in that autokinesis was more pronounced in the second half. Standardized T2* map of normal human heart in vivo to correct T2* segmental artefacts.

A segmental, multislice, multi-echo T2* MRI approach could be useful in heart iron-overloaded patients to account for heterogeneous iron distribution, demonstrated by histological studies. However, segmental T2* assessment in heart can be affected by the presence of geometrical and susceptibility artefacts, which can act on different segments in different ways. However, with respect to performance, well‐controlled functional imaging studies on MI training are sparse. We investigated changes in fMRI representation going along with performance changes of a finger sequence (error and velocity) after MI training in 48 healthy young volunteers. Introduction. Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL) is one of the most curable malignant diseases. Modern treatments, like the combined radiochemotherapy and stem cell transplantation, have increased the number of malignant disease survivors. However, HL survivors are at risk of long-term effects, including the development of solid tumors. Secondary neoplasms are a major cause of late morbidity and mortality following treatment for HL. Clinical aspects of the apparent diffusion coefficient in 3He MRI: results in healthy volunteers and patients after lung transplantation.

Purpose To measure the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) after inhalation of hyperpolarized 3He in healthy volunteers and lung transplant recipients, and demonstrate the gravity dependence of ADC values. Materials and Methods Six healthy volunteers, 10 patients after single-lung transplantation, and six patients after double-lung transplantation were examined at 1.5T during inspiration and expiration. The inhalation of 300 mL of hyperpolarized 3He was performed with a computer-controlled delivery device.
