Comparison of adsorption properties of commercial silica and rice husk ash (RHA) silica: A study by NIR spectroscopy

Abstract Adsorption properties of Silica gel (commercial silica), rice husk ash (RHA) silica, and their hydrothermally treated products towards water molecules were studied in this work. RHA silica was prepared by heating rice husk to 650°C for 4 h after pretreatment with hydrochloric acid. Portions of the samples of silica were evacuated at 200℃ and then allowed to adsorb water molecules from the surrounding air at either 42 or 50% humidity. The near infrared spectra of these samples were measured at different time intervals during their adsorption of water molecules. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is caused by mutations in the gene encoding the transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein. Some CF patients are compound heterozygous or homozygous for nonsense mutations in the CFTR gene. This implies the presence in the transcript of premature termination codons (PTCs) responsible for a truncated CFTR protein and a more severe form of the disease. Genetically engineered V79 Chinese hamster cells metabolically activate the cytostatic drugs cyclophosphamide and ifosfamide.

V79 cells, genetically engineered to express active cytochromes P450IIB1 and P450IA1, were used to study the cytotoxicity and mutagenicity of cyclophosphamide and ifosfamide. Cyclophosphamide, tested up to a concentration of 2 mM, was not cytotoxic in V79 nor in the P450IA1-expressing V79-derived cell line XEM2. Pronounced cytotoxicity was, however, observed in the P450IIB1-expressing V79-derived cell line SD1. Induction of gene mutations (acquisition of 6-thioguanine resistance) was observed in SD1 cells as well, but the effects were weak. Magnetic transition metal complexes of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives

We have prepared and characterized the transition metal complexes of two different TTF derivatives. We have oxidized the different complexes with electrooxidation and chemical oxidation techniques and the results are discussed. The magnetic properties of the complexes have been studied. TTF-carboxylate chelates are not stable enough, but thioether-TTF shows promising charge transfer salts.

Neuroanatomical studies on the distribution of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) and its receptors (7) as well as physiological data suggest a regulatory function of endogenous CRH in hypothalamic and extrahypothalamic brain areas [1, 4]. Endogenous CRH acts within the endocrine hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis and affects cardiovascular regulation and respiration through extrahypothalamic pathways. CRH also stimulates gluconeogenesis and release of plasma-catecholamines. Our experiments in humans also demonstrate an influence on respiration and on heart rate activity after systemic application of CRH.
