Oral and dental health of non-institutionalized elderly people in Spain.

With aging of the populations, the oral health and hygiene of elderly people has become an important public health issue. In this cross-sectional study we investigated the prevalence of tooth decay and other periodontal diseases in a representative cohort of 480 non-institutionalized adults ≥65 years from the province of Valencia, Spain. During a recent restoration in an underground chapel in Marsala (TP), the wall to which the altar is attached proved to be a palimpsest of several layers. The oldest dated back from the late twelfth to early thirteenth century displaying a “velarium” in the lower register. Overhead we see a Madonna in prayer (Δηομένη) preceded by a theory of Saints. A second layer, from the 15th century, decisively changes the original iconography thus transforming it into the typically Sicilian iconography of the “Madonna dell’Itria”. Effect of cavity preparation instruments (oscillating or rotating) on the composite-dentin interface in primary teeth.

Abstract Objectives: To evaluate the effect of preparation of instruments on the interfacial integrity between cavity wall and composite restoration. Methods: Two class II slot preparations were done in 10 primary teeth either with SonicSys® or with a conventional bur. The cavities were filled using an adhesive system. One layer of a flowable composite and one layer of a condensable composite were applied. The specimens were analyzed by confocal laser scanning microscopy. Halloysite nanotubes/pluronic nanocomposites for waterlogged archeological wood: thermal stability and X-ray microtomography

Filling a polymer with halloysite nanotubes is considered a promising strategy to generate nanocomposites with tailored physicochemical properties. We have focused our attention on pluronic block copolymer/halloysite nanocomposites prepared by melt blending. The effect of composition on thermal stability and polymer crystallinity was investigated by thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry. Electron microscopy was used to monitor the nanoparticle distribution in the polymeric matrix. The pluronic thermal stability is reduced by the clay nanoparticles. A critical approach to the toxic metal ion removal by hazelnut and almond shells

The adsorption capacity of ground hazelnut (HS) and almond (AS) shells towards Pb(II) and Cd(II) has been studied at pH = 5, in NaNO3 and NaCl ionic media, in the ionic strength range 0.05-0.5 mol L-1. Kinetic and equilibrium experiments were carried out by using the Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry technique to check the amount of the metal ion removed by HS and AS materials.
