Recupero e consolidamento della collezione scheletrica del Museo di Zoologia “Doderlein”

Il presente articolo illustra un’operazione di restauro che ha aperto una fase di recupero di diversi elementi scheletrici, da tempo deteriorati, nel Museo di Zoologia “Doderlein”, oggi afferente al Sistema Museale d’Ateneo - SIMUA - dell’Università degli Studi di Palermo. Il lavoro si è articolato in pulitura, restauro e consolidamento di cinquanta pezzi dei cinque gruppi di vertebrati. Questo intervento rappresenta solamente una piccola tessera di un progetto più ampio, che ha come obiettivo finale il recupero dell’intera collezione zoologica presente in Museo. ANTHROPOMORPHIC WOODEN RELIQUARIES FROM KNOWLEDGE TO RESTORATION

Two wood anthropomorphic reliquaries, belonging to the Lipsanoteca of Epiphany Church in Trapani (Italy) were restored following the consevative restoration procedures based on an interdisciplinary approach. The hystoric-artistic contextualization, the constitutive materials and executive techniques were defined and physical-chemical-biological factors involved in degradation events were evaluated. The Saints relic (human bone or teeth), present in each reliquary were analysed through visual investigation. After restoration, the manufacts showed their peculiarities and their extraordinary cultural value.

STUDY AND RESTORATION OF A RAPHAELESQUE COPY: THE MADONNA DEL VELO PAINTING FROM PALAZZO CHIAROMONTE IN PALERMO, ITALY

The article deals with the Raphael’s lost artwork Madonna del Velo, through the study of its copies ranging between the 16th and 19th century, and this allows us to reconstruct the original appearance of the lost image. The interest of this subject arose from one of these copies belonging to the art collection of the University of Palermo, stored in Palazzo Chiaromonte called ‘Steri’.

Innovative technological approaches are crucial to enhance naturalistic museum collections and develop information repositories of relevant interest to science, such as threatened animal taxa. Nel primo saggio si riepiloga la produzione di Maratti o marattesca presente in Sicilia menzionando gli episodi più significativi e i principali studi di settore. An improved Smoothed Particle ElectroMagnetics method in 3D time domain simulations

In this paper, an enhanced variant of the meshless smoothed particle electromagnetics (SPEM) method is performed in order to solve PDEs in time domain describing 3D transient electromagnetic phenomena. The method appears to be very efficient in approximating spatial derivatives in the numerical treatment of Maxwell's curl equations. In many cases, very often, accuracy degradation, due to a lack of particle consistency, severely limits the usefulness of this approach. A numerical corrective strategy, which allows to restore the SPEM consistency, without any modification of the smoothing kernel function and its derivatives, is presented.
