A phenomenological view of pictures in teaching and a novel method for analysing them

In this paper a novel method for analysing the content and teaching potential of pictures is presented. It is the four-field method, which is based on phenomenological thoughts about human experience, which combines factual knowledge with emotions and personal and social meanings. A biological example is given. Around this idea a course unit for using pictures in science teaching was organized. It was used in the training of both primary and secondary level teachers. From picture analysis the course unit proceeds to planning the use of pictures in teaching. A classification of the teaching functions of pictures is presented.

Tutkielman tavoitteena on osoittaa, miten Preussin valtio käytti arkistolaitosta ja asiakirjahallintoa politiikkansa välineinä ja legitimiteettinsä tukemiseen vuosina 1848–1918. Tutkimuskysymykset suppeasti ilmaistuna keskittyvät siihen, miten arkistolaitosta ja asiakirjahallintoa voidaan käyttää poliittisten päämäärien hyväksi ja miten tämä Preussissa ilmeni. Tutkielmani tarkoituksena on tarkastella Sigmund Freudin ja Erich Frommin kuvaa ihmisluonnosta, ihmisestä sosiaalisena olentona sekä ihmisen suhteesta maailmaan. Käyn aluksi lävitse Freudin ihmiskuvaa, jossa ihmisen käytös on pitkälti ulkomaailman realiteettien sanelemaa, mutta ihminen omaa kyvyn sisäistää ulkomaailman osia itseensä, muovaten siten sekä itseään että suhdettaan maailmaan. Achieving both creativity and rationale : reuse in design with images and claims

Although designers often try to create novel designs, many designs are based on previous work. In this paper we argue for the reuse of rationale, in the form of claims, as a central activity in design, and explore how this can be used to inspire creativity. We present a design activity in which images and claims are reused to create a storyboard and illustrate how creativity and rationale complement each other. Our work serves to demonstrate that an appropriate design activity can be used to leverage creativity with the use of rationale. peerReviewed
Believe It or Not – No Support for an Effect of Providing Explanatory or Threat-Related Information on Conspiracy Theories’ Credibility

Past research suggests that certain content features of conspiracy theories may foster their credibility. In two experimental studies (N = 293), we examined whether conspiracy theories that explicitly offer a broad explanation for the respective phenomena and/or identify potential threat posed by conspirators are granted more credibility than conspiracy theories lacking such information. Furthermore, we tested whether people with a pronounced predisposition to believe in conspiracies are particularly susceptible to such information.
