Spatial structure of helminth communities in the golden grey mullet, Liza aurata (Actinopterygii: Mugilidae), from the Western Mediterranean.
2012
Ecological investigations regarding the parasite fauna of grey mullets are scarce. The present study provides a detailed description of the helminth communities of Liza aurata in the Spanish western Mediterranean and analyzes the role of spatial, temporal, and host variables in shaping the infracommunities. In total, 204 fish were collected in 2 localities, situated ca. 290 km apart, in spring and fall of 2004 and 2005. A non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) was used to visualize an ordination of the infracommunities according to their relative similarities in parasite abundances. The relationship between infracommunity composition and explanatory variables (host size, locality, year,…
Coexistence of Mediterranean tits: A multidimensional approach
2013
[EN] Differential traits (e.g., feeding at different heights in trees) have evolved to allow the coexistence of putative competitors; such traits have been well studied in small passerines (e.g., Paridae), mainly during the winter. However, few studies have been carried out during the breeding season, when competition could be more intense. We applied here a multidimensional approach, examining ecological (prey type and size, and nesting habitat characteristics) and life history (timing of maximum nestling food demand) traits that might help to explain the coexistence of great (Parus major), crested (Lophophanes cristatus), and coal (Periparus ater) tits breeding in a Mediterranean pine for…
Large-Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Flow and Heat Transfer in Plane and Rib-Roughened Channels
1992
Large-eddy simulation results are presented and discussed for turbulent flow and heat transfer in a plane channel with and without transverse square ribs on one of the walls. They were obtained with the finite-difference code Harwell-FLOW3D, Release 2, by using the PISOC pressure-velocity coupling algorithm, central differencing in space, and Crank-Nicolson time stepping. A simple Smagorinsky model, with van Driest damping near the walls, was implemented to model subgrid scale effects. Periodic boundary conditions were imposed in the streamwise and spanwise directions. The Reynolds number based on hydraulic diameter (twice the channel height) ranged from 10 000 to 40 000. Results are compar…

El día más difícil del rey. Discursos de legitimación monárquica desde la ficción televisiva
2015
This essay examines the representation of the political process which led to the establishment and subsequent consolidation of the constitutional monarchy in recent Spanish TV fiction. It also aims at finding out what these stories reveal about the context of crisis which has engendered them. The paper focuses on the paradigmatic case of 23-F, el día más difícil del Rey - a highly popular TV drama released by the state-owned channel TVE in February 2009 - in order to analyze the discourse of monarchic legitimacy it conveys.

Morrey–Sobolev Extension Domains
2017
We show that every uniform domain of R n with n ≥ 2 is a Morrey-Sobolev W 1, p-extension domain for all p ∈ [1, n), and moreover, that this result is essentially best possible for each p ∈ [1, n) in the sense that, given a simply connected planar domain or a domain of R n with n ≥ 3 that is quasiconformal equivalent to a uniform domain, if it is a W 1, p-extension domain, then it must be uniform. peerReviewed
Etienne-Jules Marey : la passion de la musique jusqu'où...
2012
National audience; La musique semble inspirer Marey. »
EVALUATION OF THE COMBINED EFFECT OF VEGETATION AND NATURAL VENTILATION IN NEARLY ZERO ENERGY MULTI-STOREY BUILDINGS – nZE(ms)B
2020
Cooling load is the main cause of high energy consumption for tall buildings in tropical climates while the construction of tall buildings is an unavoidable practice due to land scarcity in metropolitan cities. In this regard, the use of natural ventilation (NV) in tall buildings can help reducing the energy consumption. However, this solution can also bring the problem of polluted air that may enter the space to be ventilated. If the air is passed through a system that can absorb pollutants and add more oxygen to the air, the problem may almost be solved. Building integrated vegetation (BIV) systems can help solving this problem. So, if the air entering buildings passes through dense veget…
Morphological aspects of the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses
2000
Morphological aspects of the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL) encompass two main features: loss of nerve cells and accumulation of autofluorescent lipopigments within cellular compartments. The former requires histology and morphometry for assessment, while the latter necessitates fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. Accumulation of lipopigments is widespread throughout the central nervous system and extracerebrally. The latter feature enables diagnosis of NCL and its clinical subtype. Loss of neurons is most pronounced in cerebral and cerebellar cortices, in early childhood forms. In subcortical grey matter and in later-onset forms, juvenile and adult…
