Effects of undergrowth removal and edge proximity on ground beetles and vascular plants in urban boreal forests

2019

Urban forests are regularly managed for human safety and esthetic reasons, but they are crucial habitat for many species. Removals of undergrowth occur commonly in these forests, yet the ecological consequences of these operations are poorly understood. We sampled ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) and vascular plants along 20-m edge gradients in Finnish urban forests, in five stands treated 0.5–2.5 years earlier with undergrowth removal and in five untreated stands. We hypothesized that undergrowth removal and edge proximity would benefit opportunistic and open-habitat species, whereas shady-habitat species would be affected negatively. Cytosine methylation of tRNA-Asp by DNMT2 has a role in translation of proteins containing poly-Asp sequences

2015

AbstractThe Dnmt2 RNA methyltransferase catalyses the methylation of C38 in the anticodon loop of tRNA-Asp, but the molecular role of this methylation is unknown. Here, we report that mouse aspartyl-tRNA synthetase shows a four to fivefold preference for C38-methylated tRNA-Asp. Consistently, a 30% reduced charging level of tRNA-Asp was observed in Dnmt2 knockout (KO) murine embryonic fibroblast cells. Gene expression analysis with fluorescent reporter proteins fused to an N-terminal poly-Asp sequence showed that protein synthesis of poly-Asp-tagged reporter proteins was reduced in Dnmt2 KO cells as well. The same effect was observed with endogenous proteins containing poly-Asp sequences, i…

CONFRONTO TRA UN MODELLO DINAMICO ED UNO STAZIONARIO NELLA VALUTAZIONE DELLE PERDITE REALI ED APPARENTI DI UNA RETE DI DISTRIBUZIONE

2012

Double-application of platelet-rich plasma on bone healing in rabbits

2010

Objective: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is considered to enhance bone formation especially at early stages of wound healing, depending on the limited and short life-span of platelets and growth factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate efficacy of double-application of PRP (DA-PRP) on bone healing in a rabbit calvarial defect model. Study design: Twenty-eight rabbits, each had two surgically prepared calvarial bone defects (10mm diameter), were included in this study and randomly divided into six groups. Defects (n=56) were treated with single-application of PRP (SA-PRP)(n=10), SA-PRP and beta-tricalciumphosphate (SA-PRP+TCP)(n=10), DA-PRP (n=8), DA-PRP and beta-tricalciumphosphate (DA-P…

The subnivium, a haven for

2019

Parasite nematodes of the genus Trichinella are transmitted from one host to another through the ingestion of larvae present in striated muscles. The longer the survival of muscle larvae in host carcasses, the higher the probability of being ingested by a scavenging host. Thereby, these nematodes developed an anaerobic metabolism favouring their survival in decaying tissues. In addition, muscle larvae of three taxa, namely Trichinella nativa, Trichinella britovi and Trichinella T6, can survive freezing for several months to several years depending on the taxon. The aim of the present work was to investigate the survival time of T. britovi larvae in naturally infected host carcasses preserve…

Cytochrome P450 1A- and stress protein-induction in early life stages of medaka (Oryzias latipes) exposed to trichloroethylene (TCE) soot and differe…

2013

It has previously been shown that trichloroethylene (TCE) soot extracts cause dioxinlike toxic effects in medaka fish (Oryzias latipes) and primary liver cell culture of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). This study examines embryonic and larval induction of cytochrome P450 1A and stress proteins after exposure of medaka embryos to extracts and fractions of TCE combustien-generated aerosols. Embryos were exposed to three concentrations of whole soot extract (WE; 2.7, 7.2 and 18 μg l -1 incomplete combustion by-products), TCDD (2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, 3 ng l -1 ) and four TCE fractions with different polarity (Fr 1-4; 18 μg l -1 ) for 8 days. Approximately 50% of the embryos w…

Środowisko a antybiotykooporność izolatów Escherichia coli

2017

Materiał badawczy stanowiły szczepy E.coli wyizolowane z surowca mleczarskiego i zmieszanych odpadów drobiarskich. Ocenę wrażliwości izolatów na antybiotyki przeprowadzono metodą Kirby-Bauera. Profil oporności E. coli u…
