Evaluating evaluative bibliometrics: a case study of two research groups

2018

Bibliometrics is a method increasingly used to perform evaluations of scientific output and impact, in particular in order to distribute means, such as research grants. But also internally within universities and other research institutions. Various performance and impact meaures are used to establish quality of research. This can be highly problematic, not only in terms of ethics, but also with regards to method. Especially considering the proliferation of tools to perform bibliometric analysis, which means that analyses are increasingly performed without actual understanding of bibliometrics as a scientific method. In our research we have compared two research groups in the same field of …

Kathepsinaktivitt in Placenten verschiedener Altersstufen

1954

Foreign Market Entry Mode Research: A Review and Research Agenda

2017

ABSTRACTThis article gives a retrospective look at the main determinants of foreign market entry modes and examines the variables and conditions used in empirical studies in this stream of research. We found that there is an “analytical context hazard” in past studies. The findings suggest: first, future research should focus on developing and extending theories with reference to strategy dimension and market/industry environment; second, the interrelationship between the main entry mode determinants should be figured out; third, attention has to be paid to the entry modes of firms from non-developed economies in research.

Pros and cons of family policies for mothers' labour market participation

2012

PurposeThe purpose of this editorial is to examine sociological research on the possibilities and pitfalls of social policies for mothers' employment participation, and identify research gaps in the existing literature. The paper aims to focus mainly on the implications of parental leave schemes on mothers' employment participation.Design/methodology/approachThe editorial discusses the inconsistencies in the current sociological debate on the impact of social policies on mothers' employment.FindingsThe relationship between parental leave policies and women's participation in the work force is complex. The literature shows a disagreement about whether such policies mitigate family‐related ca…

Estimating the substitutability between private and public consumption: the case of Spain, 1960–2003

2005

This paper examines the relationship between private and public consumption using Spanish data over the period 1960–2003, using a two-good permanent-income model. We extend previous analysis addressing the question of whether this relationship is stable over time, or exhibits a structural break allowing the instability to occur at an unknown point in time. Our empirical results indicated the existence of a long-run relationship between private and public consumption. We also detect a structural change of regime shift in the cointegration regression around the time of 1973–74. Finally, the estimated intratemporal and intertemporal elasticities of substitution between the two types of expendi…

P3‐039: Axonal neuritic pathology induces early presynaptic alterations in ps1/APP Alzheimer's mice hippocampus

2011

Loss of neurons in the hippocampus correlates with memory impairment in AD. Significant early reduction in the numerical density of hippocampal SOM interneurons was found in single (APPswe) and double (APPswe/ PS1dE9 and APPswe/TauP301S-G272V) transgenic models based on APP over expression and amyloid production. However, this inhibitory population was unaffected in age-matched single PS1 and tau transgenic mice as well as nontransgenic controls. Whereas SOM neuron loss in APPswe/PS1dE9 was associated to the onset of extracellular amyloid pathology in double APP/ tau mice this loss preceded plaque formation. Conclusions: As in human AD, somatostatin cell loss is a common early pathological …

Modifying the texture of foods for infants and young children

2015

The first section of this chapter describes the evolutions in oral physiology (anatomical motor components, oral motor skills and feeding skills) in healthy children (< 3 years). The second section describes how each type of texture is accepted at each oral physiology stage, and how exposures to textures impact oral physiology development and acceptability of textures. The third section shows how the need to modify food texture for infant foods is addressed, through national regulations or recommendations from public health bodies, and describes practices of texture modification, based on national surveys and case reports (including baby-led weaning). The chapter is closed by a commentary o…
