We prove that if the average Sylow number (ignoring the Sylow numbers that are one) of a finite group G is ⩽7, then G is solvable.

Abstract A subgroup A of a periodic group G is said to be Sylow permutable, or S-permutable, subgroup of G if A P = P A for all Sylow subgroups P of G. The aim of this paper is to establish the local nilpotency of the section A G / Core G ( A ) for an S-permutable subgroup A of a locally finite group G.

[EN] Finite groups G for which for every subgroup H and for all primes q dividing the index |G:H| there exists a subgroup K of G such that H is contained in K and |K:H|=q are called Y-groups. Groups in which subnormal subgroups permute with all Sylow subgroups are called PST-groups. In this paper a local version of the Y-property leading to a local characterisation of Y-groups, from which the classical characterisation emerges, is introduced. The relationship between PST-groups and Y-groups is also analysed.

We give a complete classification of the finite groups with a unique subgroup of order p for each prime p dividing its order. All the groups considered in this paper will be finite. One of the most fruitful lines in the research in abstract group theory during the last years has been the study of groups in which the members of a certain family of subgroups satisfy a certain subgroup embedding property. The family of the subgroups of prime order (also called minimal subgroups) has attracted the interest of many mathematicians. On the Frattini subgroup of a finite group

We study the class of finite groups $G$ satisfying $\Phi (G/N)= \Phi(G)N/N$ for all normal subgroups $N$ of $G$. As a consequence of our main results we extend and amplify a theorem of Doerk concerning this class from the soluble universe to all finite groups and answer in the affirmative a long-standing question of Christensen whether the class of finite groups which possess complements for each of their normal subgroups is subnormally closed.

We establish a variational parabolic capacity in a context of degenerate parabolic equations of $p$-Laplace type, and show that this capacity is equivalent to the nonlinear parabolic capacity. As an application, we estimate the capacities of several explicit sets.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease with demyelination of the central nervous system. High-dosage corticosteroids are the first-line therapy in the acute relapsing of MS. We report a case of severe high-dose methylprednisolone-induced acute hepatitis in a patient with a new diagnosis of MS. A 16-year-old girl was admitted for urticaria, angioedema, nausea and vomiting a month later she had been diagnosed with MS and treated with high-dosage methylprednisolone. Laboratory investigations showed hepatic insufficiency with grossly elevated liver enzymes. A liver biopsy showed focal centrilobular hepatocyte necrosis with interface hepatitis. Background Systemic low-grade inflammation has been proposed as an underlying pathophysiological mechanism for cardiometabolic diseases. We investigated the associations of physical fitness with systemic low-grade inflammatory state in a population sample of children. Methods Altogether 391 children aged 6–9 years were examined. Cardiorespiratory fitness (maximal power output, Wmax) was assessed by a maximal cycle ergometer test and neuromuscular fitness by hand grip strength, sit-up, standing long jump, 50-metre shuttle run, static balance, sit-and-reach, and box and block tests. Differences in wage determination in the Eurozone: A challenge to the resilience of the common currency

Abstract Different developments in wages and unit labor costs across countries can reduce the synchronization of business cycles within a currency area and therefore be a potential source of asymmetric shocks and/or asymmetric response to a common shock. In this paper, we use novel econometric methods to identify differences and similarities in wage determination across Eurozone countries. Results show that wages have different determinants across euro area countries, among which two relatively distinct groups can be identified. In particular, wages in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Finland behave more similarly, are less sticky and respond more to macroeconomic …
EMU and Trade Revisited: Long-Run Evidence Using Gravity Equations

In this paper, we present evidence of the long-run effect of the euro on trade for the twelve initial EMU countries for the period 1967–2008 from a double perspective. First, we pool all the bilateral combinations of trade flows among the EMU countries in a panel cointegration gravity specification. Second, we estimate a gravity equation for each of the EMU members vis-a-vis the other eleven partners. We apply panel cointegration techniques based on factor models that account for cross-dependence and structural breaks.
