Bi- and uniciliated ependymal cells define continuous floor-plate-derived tanycytic territories

Multiciliated ependymal (E1) cells line the brain ventricles and are essential for brain homeostasis. We previously identified in the lateral ventricles a rare ependymal subpopulation (E2) with only two cilia and unique basal bodies. Here we show that E2 cells form a distinct biciliated epithelium extending along the ventral third into the fourth ventricle. In the third ventricle floor, apical profiles with only primary cilia define an additional uniciliated (E3) epithelium. E2 and E3 cells' ultrastructure, marker expression and basal processes indicate that they correspond to subtypes of tanycytes. KCND3 potassium channel gene variant confers susceptibility to electrocardiographic early repolarization pattern

BACKGROUND: The presence of an early repolarization pattern (ERP) on the surface ECG is associated with risk of ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. Family studies have shown that ERP is a highly heritable trait, but molecular genetic determinants are unknown. METHODS: To identify genetic susceptibility loci for ERP, we performed a GWAS and meta-analysis in 2,181 cases and 23,641 controls of European ancestry. Amyloid deposition and neurofibrillary degeneration in Alzheimer's disease specifically affect discrete neuronal systems, but the underlying mechanisms that render some brain regions more vulnerable to Alzheimer's disease pathology than others remain largely unknown. AbstractClinical presentation of Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) may range from acute chest pain to dyspnea: the prognostic role of clinical onset is still controversial. Aim of this study was therefore to investigate the prognostic relevance of dyspnea at presentation in patients with TTS. We analyzed 1,071 TTS patients (median age 72 years, 90% female) enrolled in the international multicenter GEIST registry. Patients were divided according to the presence or absence of dyspnea at hospital admission, as clinically assessed by the accepting physician. Exome sequencing of a family with lone, autosomal dominant atrial flutter identifies a rare variation in ABCB4 significantly enriched in cases

Background Lone atrial flutter (AFL) and atrial fibrillation (AF) are common and sometimes consequential cardiac conduction disorders with a strong heritability, as underlined by recent genome-wide association studies that identified genetic modifiers. Impact of frailty and atrial fibrillation in elderly patients with acute coronary syndromes

Background: There is scarce information on the prognostic role of frailty and Atrial Fibrillation (AF) in elderly patients Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). Methods: The aim was to analyse the management of elderly patients with frailty and AF who suffered an ACS using data of the prospective multicentre LONGEVO-SCA registry. We evaluated the predictive performance of FRAIL, Charlson scores and AF status for adverse events at 6 months follow-up.
