Deep sequencing of the human retinae reveals the expression of odorant receptors

Several studies have demonstrated that the expression of odorant receptors (ORs) occurs in various tissues. These findings have served as a basis for functional studies that demonstrate the potential of ORs as drug targets for a clinical application. To the best of our knowledge, this report describes the first evaluation of the mRNA expression of ORs and the localization of OR proteins in the human retina that set a stage for subsequent functional analyses. Lovastatin inhibits Rho-regulated expression of E-selectin by TNFalpha and attenuates tumor cell adhesion.

E-selectin mediated cell-cell adhesion plays an important role in inflammatory processes and extravasation of tumor cells. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) induces E-selectin gene and protein expression in primary human endothelial cells (HUVEC) and in an endothelial cell line (EA.hy-926). As shown by ELISA and FACS analyses, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (e.g., lovastatin) impair the TNF-alpha stimulated increase in E-selectin protein expression. Similar results were obtained for E-selectin mRNA expression and promoter activity, indicating that the effect of lovastatin is based on inhibition of gene expression. The article investigates which consequences has had the reform of title V, second part of the italian Constitution, in the legislative power allocation between State and Sicilian Region in labour law matter, focusing its attention on the recent development of the case law of the Constitutional Court.

Tutkimus käsittelee Keski-Pohjanmaan amerikansiirtolaisuutta vuosina 1893−1945. Keski- Pohjanmaa oli Suomen vilkkainta siirtolaisseutua. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on ollut selvittää, millä volyymilla Keski-Pohjanmaan kunnista muutettiin. Suomen virallisen tilaston perusteella on selvitetty jokaisen kunnat vuosittaiset lähtijämäärät. Tilastojen kertoman mukaan Keski- Pohjanmaan alueelta on hahmotettu voimakkaan ja heikon siirtolaisuuden alueet. Siirtolaisten lukumäärää on verrattu mm. kuntien maantieteelliseen sijaintiin sekä asukkaiden äidinkieleen. Tässä pro gradu -työssä tutkitaan moottoripyörämatkakirjallisuuden tyypillisiä piirteitä sekä lajin sijoittumista matkakirjallisuuden traditioon. Työ esittelee moottoripyörämatkakirjallisuudelle ominaisia piirteitä, jotka toistuvat teoksesta toiseen aina ensimmäisistä esimerkeistä 1900-luvun alusta 2000-luvulla kirjoitettuihin teoksiin asti. Tutkimuksen kohteena on englanninkielinen moottoripyörämatkakirjallisuus. Työ esittelee ensin matkakirjallisuuden ja matkan käsitteen historiaa sijoittaen moottoripyörämatkakirjallisuuden osaksi tätä jatkumoa. Una statua recentemente ricomposta nell'Antiquarium di Solunto, ad un esame dettagliato, risulta essere un assemblaggio di parti pertinenti in origine ad almeno due statue improntate al cd. tipo della Kore di Prassitele, una delle quali pare avere inoltre subito la sostituzione del ritratto originario con una nuova effigie femminile. Lo studio iconografico-stilistico consente di riconoscere nel ritratto attualmente preservato, in piccola parte, sulla fronte Agrippina Maggiore e nel frammento posteriore un'effigie ugualmente di età neroniana. The Czerwona Woda River is the main watercourse in the Stołowe Mountains National Park and drains the major part of the Stołowe Mts. It was regulated in the past, but its channel has been spontaneously naturalized. Now, managed spruce forests grow along almost the entire length of this small mountain stream. The aims of the present study were to investigate diversity of plant communities connected with the Czerwona Woda stream and to prepare detailed vegetation maps.
