Intergroup relations between French and migrants of francopone sub-Saharan Africa
2016
The aim of this research is to update the identity changes and inter-categorical relational processes between Blacks and Whites, between Africans and Europeans on African migrants in Burgundy. We propose to understand migration as a process considering two elements: a) the temporality of the process and b) the space in which the various stages of migration take place. Our theoretical background is based on two major currents. The first one is the meta-theory of social identity, completed by the model of social partitions. The second one concerns some achievements of acculturation studies. A twofold methodology was used: firstly, the use of quantitative questionnaires, including the RepMut t…
When your nose knows what you see : multisensory development of visual categorization : evidence from odor-driven face categorization in the human br…
2020
This thesis examines whether and how odors contribute to the development of visual categorization in the human brain using fast periodic visual stimulation coupled with scalp electroencephalography (FPVS-EEG). Specifically, we sought to characterize if a neural visual response selective to the face category is modulated by the presence of a body odor in both infants (Study 1, 2, 3) and adults (Study 4).In infants, the selectivity of the odor effect on visual categorization was addressed by testing separately three categories in three groups of 4-month-old infants presented with a control odor or their mother’s odor. We observed that a face-selective response is largely enhanced by maternal …
Migrer ? Rester? Rentrer ?
2014
This study is a part of a research program aimed at understanding the reasons French-speaking Sub-Saharan African nationals settle in Europe and particularly in France. We decided to use metaphorically, the definition of motivation proposed by Vallerand and Thill (1993) to create an anonymous questionnaire to collect data on the construction of the migration process. All participants (N: 318) are French-speaking Africans, citizens of Sub-Saharan African Francophone countries, aged between 14 and 56 years old. For the analysis, we created two groups: participants who reside in their home country (n: 164), and the migrant population (n: 154). In cases where it was relevant, we subdivided the …
