Security Controls for Smart Buildings with Shared Space
2022
In this paper we consider cyber security requirements of the smart buildings. We identify cyber risks, threats, attack scenarios, security objectives and related security controls. The work was done as a part of a smart building design and construction work. From the controls identified w e concluded security practices for engineering-in smart buildings security. The paper provides an idea toward which system security engineers can strive in the basic design and implementation of the most critical components of the smart buildings. The intent of the concept is to help practitioners to avoid ad hoc approaches in the development of security mechanisms for smart buildings with shared space. pe…

2016
Bakalaura darbā “Komercbanku riska analīze Latvijā”, uz zinātnisko literatūras avotu un Latvijas lielāko komercbanku (pēc aktīvu apjoma uz 2015, gadu) gada pārskatu datu analīzes tiek izvērtēta atsoņu lielāko Latvijas Komercbanku - “AS Swedbank”, “SEB”, “Citadele banka”, “DNB”, “AB.LV”, “AS Norvik banka”, “Baltikums Bank”, “AS Privat Bank” likviditāte un tās ietekmējošie faktori, kā arī izstrādāti priekšlikumi komercbanku likviditātes riska vadības uzlabošanai un efektivitātes paaugstināšanai. Darbs sastāv no divām anotācijām, no kurām viena latviešu valodā, otra krievu valodā, ievada, trijām daļām, secinājumiem un priekšlikumiem. Bakalaura darba pirmajā daļā tiek pētīti un izzināti komercb…
Starptautiskā tirdzniecības kredītu apdrošināšana
2017
Political risks: the “red shift” in debt sustainability analysis
2020
Political stability and economic policy uncertainty can be key determinants of sovereign debt dynamics, and we show how they can be incorporated in debt sustainability analysis. We distinguish between short-term ambiguity and long-term uncertainty about political risk factors, and using a combination of narrative scenarios and calibrated probabilistic scenarios we obtain a comprehensive heatmap of high-risk debt dynamics. We use Italy as an interesting case study and demonstrate a “red shift” in the assessment of vulnerabilities when accounting for political risks. Ignoring these risks can lead to excessive optimism and wrong decisions.

Clinical states of cirrhosis and competing risks.
2018
The clinical course of cirrhosis is mostly determined by the progressive increase of portal hypertension, hyperdynamic circulation, bacterial translocation and activation of systemic inflammation. Different disease states, encompassing compensated and decompensated cirrhosis and a late decompensated state, are related to the progression of these mechanisms and may be recognised by haemodynamic or clinical characteristics. While these disease states do not follow a predictable sequence, they correspond to varying mortality risk. Acute-on-chronic liver failure may occur either in decompensated or in compensated cirrhosis and is always associated with a high short-term mortality. The increasin…
Loss of life expectancy from air pollution compared to other risk factors: a worldwide perspective
2020
Abstract Aims Long-term exposure of humans to air pollution enhances the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. A novel Global Exposure Mortality Model (GEMM) has been derived from many cohort studies, providing much-improved coverage of the exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5). We applied the GEMM to assess excess mortality attributable to ambient air pollution on a global scale and compare to other risk factors. Methods and results We used a data-informed atmospheric model to calculate worldwide exposure to PM2.5 and ozone pollution, which was combined with the GEMM to estimate disease-specific excess mortality and loss of life expectancy (LLE) in 2015. Using this model, …
Fish and human health: an umbrella review of observational studies
2022
Fish represents one of the most important dietary sources of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are known to be associated with various health benefits. This study aimed to systematically review existing meta-analyses of observational studies exploring the association between fish intake and various health outcomes. A systematic search of electronic databases was conducted to retrieve a total of 63 studies. Evidence was deemed as possible for the association between higher fish intake and decreased risk of the acute coronary syndrome, liver cancer, and depression, and limited for other outcomes (including age-related macular degeneration, Alzheimer’s disease, heart failure, all-caus…
