Decoupled Acoustic and Visual Components in the Multimodal Signals of the Common Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus)
2021
Because of its parasitic habits, reproduction costs of the common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) are mostly spent in pre-laying activities. Female costs are limited to searching host nests and laying eggs, whereas, males spend time in performing intense vocal displays, possibly with territorial purpose. This last aspect, together with a sexual plumage dimorphism, points to both intra- and inter-sexual selections operating within this species. One element triggering sexual selection is a differential fitness accrued by different phenotypes. Before analyzing possible sexual selection mechanisms operating in cuckoos, it is therefore necessary to verify whether there is a variability among male secon…
Trophic role of marbled crayfish in a lentic freshwater ecosystem
2019
Species’ introductions may cause severe adverse effects on freshwater ecosystems and their biota. The marbled crayfish, Procambarus virginalis Lyko, 2017, is an invasive parthenogenetically reproducing crayfish with rapid reproduction, maturation and tolerance to a wide range of environmental conditions, which was introduced to many sites across Europe during the last decade. Due to its recent speciation and limited number of field studies, the knowledge of trophic interactions of the marbled crayfish in freshwater food webs is scarce. An invaded area located in Central Europe was studied to identify the marbled crayfish food web interactions using analysis of carbon 13 C and nitrogen 15N i…
Egg and embryo proteins in European newts (genus Triturus) and their taxonomic potential
1987
AbstractPolyacrylamide disc electrophoresis was carried out on water soluble proteins of eggs and embryos of Triturus alpestris, T. boscai, T. cristatus, T. helveticus, T. marmoratus and T. vulgaris. "Major bands" and "minor bands" were defined and species specific phenotyps are described. The patterns of major bands proved to be rather constant during embryonic development up to approximately stage 30 (stretched tailbud stage). The method as used in this study is considered to be practical and relevant for diagnostic studies on Triturus species.
1980
AbstractThe pattern of teethrows on the roof of the mouth and the numbers of teeth enable as diagnostic characteristics the determination of the Central European Urodela. Particularly the distinction between T. vulgaris and T. helveticus is now definite in all stages after metamorphose. The degree of development of the vomeromaxillarfold (Triturus) respectively of the vomerfold (Salamandra) indicates whether a specimen is an adult, juvenile or newly metamorphosed one.
2014
[EN] In the present article it is tried to show as the holidays they are social historical constructions, which mutations are inseparable both of the diverse political contexts and of the institutional action. This one is the case of Julio's Fair of Valencia, founded in in 1871 under the requiriments of bourgeois taste. In our work we show, resting on historical documentation of press and file, the diverse stages of the evolution of the Fair, insisting in since there is modified his cultural institutional management. So if at firdt period of euphoria and ascent, the Feria de Valencia managed to become one of the most important festive events in Valencia, taking on a distinctly popular carac…
Rituximab modulates the expression of IL-22 in the salivary glands of patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome
2012
We have recently demonstrated that interleukin (IL)-22, mainly produced by T-helper 17 effector cells, natural killer (NK)p44+NK cells and epithelial cells, may be potentially involved in the pathogenesis of primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS).1 The IL-22/IL-22R pathway is known to play a role in the emergence of T and B-cell lymphoma2 ,3 and pSS is considered a risk factor for the development of lymphoma.4 Rituximab, which has historically been used for the treatment of B-cell lymphoma,5 has also been considered to be effective in the therapy of pSS.6 Ten consecutive patients with pSS (eight women and two men, with a mean duration of disease of 48±18 months), diagnosed according to the Americ…

2020
The paper introduces the splendid representations of Emperor Constantine the Great and Saint Helena in Jan Kuben’s frescos in the church under invocation of the Triumph of the Cross in Brzeg. They testify strongly of the incessant presence of the creative reflection over the Christian ancient times in the area of Opole Silesia in the period of the Catholic reform in the 18th century. Kuben’s trompe-l’oeil constitutes a wonderful combination of deeply experienced Catholic spirituality with the genius of the artist – a visionary.
Bioloģisko atkritumu veidi un to pārstrādes iespējas Latvijā
2019
Darbs sastāv no 5 galvenajām nodaļām.
Psychobiosocial Experiences in Sport : Development and Initial Validation of a Semantic Differential Scale
2021
Abstract Objectives To develop and validate the Psychobiosocial Experience Semantic Differential scale in sport (PESD-Sport), a new measure to assess discrete emotions and performance-related experiences in sport as conceptualized within the individual zones of optimal functioning (IZOF; Hanin, 2000, 2007, 2010) framework. Method In Study 1, we developed a preliminary 53-item version of the scale using a semantic differential format in the construction of the items pertaining to 12 psychobiosocial modalities. We chose this format to attain a clear representation of psychobiosocial states between opposites along perceived performance functionality (i.e., functional, dysfunctional). The preli…
