Wastewaters generated by agro-industrial operations often represent an unsustainable cost for farms due to high wastewater-treatment management costs. The wastewater produced by dairies, wineries or oil mills may vary in quantity and in quality depending on the time of the year, making the use of a conventional treatment system less efficient and more costly. AbstractThe collapse of a volcanic flank can be destructive and deadly. Hydrothermal alteration is common to volcanoes worldwide and is thought to promote volcano instability by decreasing rock strength. However, some laboratory studies have shown that not all alteration reduces rock strength. Our new laboratory data for altered rhyodacites from Chaos Crags (Lassen volcanic center, California, USA) show that pore- and crack-filling mineral precipitation can reduce porosity and permeability and increase strength, Young's modulus, and cohesion. Constructed wetland systems for wastewater treatment represent an excellent opportunity for the recovery of water resources in those areas subject to prolonged periods of water shortage. This paper presents a study of the efficiency of a pilot horizontal subsurface flow system using pre-treated urban wastewater from a small town in the West of Sicily. Las enteroparasitosis afectan a la estructura y ambiente intestinal generando sintomatología en pacientes susceptibles. Éstas podrían llegar a desencadenar, agravar o confundirse con Trastornos Gastrointestinales Crónicos (TGC), cada vez más frecuentes en la población. En el presente estudio, se analiza la prevalencia de parásitos intestinales en 295 pacientes con TGC y/o sintomatología mediante la combinación de métodos diagnósticos. Giardia intestinalis fue el parásito más prevalente (61,7%), seguido de Blastocystis sp. (13,2%), con una prevalencia de parasitación general del 67%.
