Remote but Connected : Lapland as a Scene of Transnational Crime in Ivalo

Set in a small town in the north of Finland, the crime TV series Ivalo (Arctic Circle, Finland, 2018) exemplifies the fascination of Nordic Noir with ‘remote’ locations as scenes of transnational crime. The plot seems to forebode the corona pandemic, portraying the spread of a life-threatening ‘Yemenite virus’ developed as a biological weapon from the Balkans to Lapland. In this article, I analyze how the virus narrative allows the series to bring new perspectives on Nordic Noir. Kieliresurssit ja niiden väliset suhteet Pajalan ja Pykeijän kielimaisemissa

Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkastellaan Pajalan ja Pykeijän kylteissä esiintyvien kieliresurssien muodostamia kielimaisemia. Tavoitteena on selvittää, millaiset kielimaisemat kieliresurssien käytön perusteella Pajalaan ja Pykeijään muodostuu. Lisäksi tutkielmassa selvitetään Pajalassa esiintyvistä vähemmistökielistä meänkielen ja Pykeijässä kveenin kielen käyttöä kielimaisemissa. Vähemmistökielten kohdalla tarkastellaan niiden asemaa ja suhdetta muihin kielimaisemissa käytettyihin resursseihin nähden. We present the structure, functionalities and the first in-beam performance of the ALICE Fast Interaction Trigger (FIT). FIT comprises three detectors: FT0, FV0 and FDD, which use Cherenkov and scintillation effects to detect charged particles originating from proton-proton (pp) and heavy-ion collisions. FIT generates triggers for ALICE, monitors luminosity and background, measures collision time, and determines global collision parameters, such as forward multiplicity, centrality and event plane. FIT uses dedicated front-end electronics to measure time and charge of pulses at pp bunch crossing interval of 25 ns and pp (Pb-Pb) interaction rates of up to 1 MHz (50 kHz). FIT has been installe…

Abstract MARA is a new recoil mass separator in the Accelerator Laboratory of University of Jyvaskyla (JYFL-ACCLAB) with a mass resolving power of 250 and an ion-optical configuration of QQQD E D M . In this paper the construction, control and conditioning of its electrostatic deflector are described. The deflector was designed for voltages up to 500 kV accross the gap, corresponding to a 3.6 MV/m field, to accomodate fusion reactions with inverse kinematics. Titanium electrodes with a beam dump opening in the anode are used.
