A four-year research and development program at CAPOLSA (the Centre for the Promotion of Literacy in Sub-Saharan Africa) was inspired by widespread dissatisfaction with poor literacy outcomes of mass basic schooling in Zambia and sought to test the generalizability of a scientifically grounded, computer-mediated instructional resource developed in Finland, for effective intervention in an African society where different linguistic and educational conditions obtain. Type I Interferonopathies comprise inherited inflammatory diseases associated with perturbation of the type I IFN response. Use of Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors has been recently reported as possible tools for treating some of those rare diseases. We describe herein the clinical picture and treatment response to the JAK-inhibitor ruxolitinib in a 5-year-old girl affected by Aicardi-Goutières Syndrome type 6 (AGS6) due to ADAR1 mutation. The girl's interferon score (IS) was compared with that of her older brother, suffering from the same disorder, who was not treated. We observed a limited, but distinct neurological improvement (Gross Motor Function and Griffiths Mental Development Scales). …

Rather, the term “cyborg”, a contraction of “cybernetic organism”, evokes a figure of the (hu)man- machine. In the field of social and political sciences, the cyborg is designated a human-machine hybrid, a metaphor of humans becoming machinelike, or a portrait of (political) agency in an era of high technology. Tutkielma keskittyy Mikki Hiiri -sanomalehtisarjakuviin, joiden alkuperäisiä, englanninkielisiä versioita ja suomenkielisiä käännöksiä vertasin. Tavoitteena oli selvittää, mitkä aineistossa esiintyvät verbaalisen huumorin muodot ovat erityisen haastavia mahdollisimman tarkan ja lähdetekstille uskollisen kääntämisen näkökulmasta, ja millaisia käännöstekniikoita suomalaiset kääntäjät näissä tilanteissa käyttivät. Programmed cell death ligand (PD-L1)/PD-1 expression has been studied in a variety of cancers and blockage of PD-L1/PD-1 pathway is a cornerstone of immunotherapy. We studied PD-L1/PD-1 immunohistochemical expression in 47 thyroid gland specimens in groups of (1) Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) only; (2) HT and follicular epithelial dysplasia (FED); and (3) HT, FED, and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). PD-1 positivity was found in immune cells, namely in lymphocytes, macrophages, and plasma cells with mean values for lymphocytes and macrophages 9% in HT group, 4% in FED group, and 4% in PTC group.
