Authoress of the article analyses personal identity on an ethnic borderland. Personal identity among other things is an ability to answer following questions: „Who am I, Where am I from?”. Borderland is multiethnic, multicultural and multilanguage area, where defining an unit is especially difficult in the period of nationalistic conflicts. Authoress is considering personal identity on example of Óndra Łysohorsky – Czech regional poet of Silesia, who in the thirties of 20th century was declaring controversial opinion about existence of Lachian nation speaking Lachian language.
Grain Composition and Functional Ingredients of Barley Varieties Created in Latvia

Abstract Cereals, including barley, have been recognised as functional foods that provide beneficial effect on the health of the consumer and decrease the risk of various diseases. The aim of investigation was to determine the grain composition of barley varieties and perspective breeding lines bred in Latvia and to evaluate its functional ingredients. The results of analysis showed that protein content among varieties ranged from 106.6-146.8 g·kg-1, total dietary fibre 187.4-208.2 g·kg-1, β-glucans 42.8 g-49.4 g·kg-1, and amount of α-tocopherol 6.03-8.93 mg·kg-1. In the area considered here, the funerary goods found in burials dating from the Late MBA to the beginning of the LBA (Bz C2 to Ha A1) are particularly rich, with a variety of bronze objects such as ornaments, clothing accessories, tools and weapons. Contemporary settlements only occasionally provide “lost” metal objects and deposits on land or in rivers remain rare.
