Determination of toxic elements by cathodic-stripping-voltammetry

1981

The DPCSV determination of arsenic, selenium and tellurium in the sub-ng/ml range is discussed. After electrolytic deposition of the elements as intermetallic compounds with copper on the electrode surface, the determination is carried out by cathodic stripping. The simultaneous determination of selenium and tellurium or of selenium and arsenic is possible. Problems which occur in the application of these methods are discussed.

An unexpected ring carboxylation in the electrocarboxylation of aromatic ketones

2006

The electrocarboxylation of various aromatic ketones, carried out in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) in a diaphragmless cell equipped with a carbon cathode and an aluminium sacrificial anode, yielded, among the products, the target hydroxy acids, the corresponding alcohols and pinacols and, quite surprisingly, detectable amounts of substituted benzoic acids and cycloexene carboxylic acids. These compounds arise from a never reported before electrocarboxylation on the aromatic ring, respectively, for substitution of an aromatic hydrogen and from an addition reaction. For example, the electrocarboxylation of acetophenone gave rise to the substituted benzoic acids in ortho, para and meta position…

Enantioselective transport of amino acid through supported chiral liquid membranes

1993

Abstract Two chiral alcohols, nopol and (2S)-(−)-methyl-1-butanol, immobilized in the pores of a polyethylene film were used for the anantioselective transport of amino acid hydrochloride. The degree of stereoselectivity of the permeation process varied from 0.39 to 1.52 depending on both the type of the chiral membrane phase and the properties of the amino acid. The evaluation of the membrane ability to separate stereoisomers was performed by the step-by-step analysis by considering the effect of amino acids' hydrophobicity, polarity and degree of chirality. For the purpose of this paper, the chirality measure was introduced. It was demonstrated that the enantioselectivity was affected mai…

The Role of Linguistic Resources in the Institutional Organisation of the Armenian Diaspora in Finland

2019

This chapter presents a linguistic ethnographic case study exploring the role of linguistic resources in the institutional organisation of the Armenian diaspora within the Finnish context. Even though the Armenian diasporas across the globe have been extensively studied in various countries, relatively little research has been conducted on linguistic resources employed in the institutional organisation of the Armenian diasporas. In addition, to our knowledge, no single research has focused on the Armenian diaspora residing in Finland or organisational work done at the institutional level within the Finnish context. The study reported here attempts to address these gaps by drawing upon multi…

Victor Schoelcher, républicain et libre penseur

2002

Metrological performances of voltage and current instrument transformers in harmonics measurements

2018

In the new electrical system scenario, the increasing presence of non-linear loads and renewable energy sources makes the measurement of harmonics an essential task. The accuracy of harmonic measurement firstly depends on the used instrument transformers for voltage and current sensing. Since the behavior of instrument transformers in non-sinusoidal conditions is not always well defined, this paper presents an experimental study on the metrological performances of current and voltage instrument transformers (CTs and VTs) in the presence of harmonics. Proper tests procedures are defined and measurement setups are developed for both CTs and VTs calibration. The analysis is carried out by usin…

Current transformers effects on the measurement of harmonic active power in LV and MV networks

2011

The harmonic active power is used to determine the location of polluting loads, the direction of harmonic power flow and to estimate how consequential a certain current harmonic source is. The highest uncertainties, when measuring harmonic active power, are introduced by the current and voltage transducers. This paper presents experimental results which show the impact of current transformers (CTs) on the accuracy of the harmonic power measurements. An expression for the evaluation of the power error in distorted conditions was developed which can be easily utilized in the case of linear current transducers. It is shown how CTs cannot be considered linear transducers and how the higher the …

Differences and Similarities in Neuropathy in Type 1 and 2 Diabetes: A Systematic Review

2021

Background: Diabetic neuropathy is defined as the dysfunction of the peripheral nervous system in diabetic patients. It is considered a microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus. Its presence is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Although several studies have found alterations at somatic motor, sensory levels and at the level of autonomic nervous system in diabetic patients, there is not a systematic approach regarding the differences in neuropathy between the major variants of diabetes, e.g., type 1 and 2 diabetes at both neurological and molecular level. Data sources: we systematically (Medline, Scopus, and Cochrane databases) evaluated the literature related to the …

Increased carrier peptide stability through ph adjustment improves insulin and pth(1-34) delivery in vitro and in vivo rather than by enforced carrie…

2020

Oral delivery of therapeutic peptides is hampered by their large molecular size and labile nature, thus limiting their permeation across the intestinal epithelium. Promising approaches to overcome the latter include co-administration with carrier peptides. In this study, the cell-penetrating peptide penetratin was employed to investigate effects of co-administration with insulin and the pharmacologically active part of parathyroid hormone (PTH(1-34)) at pH 5, 6.5, and 7.4 with respect to complexation, enzymatic stability, and transepithelial permeation of the therapeutic peptide in vitro and in vivo. Complex formation between insulin or PTH(1-34) and penetratin was pH-dependent. Micron-size…
