Lukijan metsästys : mallilukijan rakentuminen aikakauslehden kehittämishankkeen aikana
2010
Suomalaisissakin aikakauslehdissä ollaan hiljalleen siirtymässä kansainvälisen trendin perässä yksilösuorituksista tiimityötä ja laajempaa suunnittelua arvostavaan suunnittelevaan ja editoivaan työtapaan. Työtavan muutosta on perusteltu laskevilla levikkiluvuilla, kiristyvällä kilpailulla ja lukijoiden tarpeilla. Varmaa kuitenkin on, että suunnittelevampi työyhteisö merkitsee toimittajille itsenäisyyden vähenemistä. Uusi työtapa auttaa mediaa kiristyvässä kilpailussa ja sirpaloituneilla markkinoilla, koska se auttaa lehteä pitämään laadun numerosta toiseen ja kohdentamalla sisällöt tarkemmin tarkoitetulle yleisölle. Pidemmälle suunniteltua ja konseptiltaan miet…
Yleisöpalaute toimittajan työssä
2015
Journalismin yleisösuhde on kahden viime vuosikymmenen aikana muuttunut perustavalla tavalla.
Physical activity from adolescence to young adulthood: patterns of change, and their associations with activity domains and sedentary time
2021
Background Longitudinal studies demonstrate an average decline in physical activity (PA) from adolescence to young adulthood. However, while some subgroups of adolescents decrease activity, others increase or maintain high or low activity. Activity domains may differ between subgroups (exhibiting different PA patterns), and they offer valuable information for targeted health promotion. Hence, the aim of this study was to identify PA patterns from adolescence to young adulthood; also to explore the associations of (i) changes in PA domains and in sedentary time, (ii) sociodemographic factors, and (iii) self-rated health with diverging PA patterns. Methods The observational cohort study data …
Western Australian students' alcohol consumption and expenditure intentions for Schoolies.
2016
In Australia, the immediate post-school period (known as ‘Schoolies’) is associated with heavy drinking and high levels of alcohol-related harm. This study investigated students’ intended alcohol consumption during Schoolies to inform interventions to reduce alcohol-related harm among this group. An online survey was administered to students in their senior year of schooling. Included items related to intended daily alcohol consumption during Schoolies, amount of money intended to be spent on alcohol over the Schoolies period, and past drinking behaviour. On average, participants (n=187) anticipated that they would consume eight standard drinks per day, which is substantially higher than t…
Assessment of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Propensity towards HPV Vaccine of Young Adult Students in Italy
2020
Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI), representing the main cause of genital warts and cervical cancer. This cross-sectional study evaluated knowledge and attitudes about HPV infection, related diseases, and prevention and propensity towards HPV vaccine among undergraduate students. Methods: An online and written survey about HPV and its prevention, targeted to young adults of both genders, was addressed to students attending health sciences and other schools at Universities of Genoa and Bari. Results: The overall median knowledge and attitude scores were 56.3% (25&ndash
Impact of using different levels of threshold-based artefact correction on the quantification of heart rate variability in three independent human co…
2020
Heart rate variability (HRV) is a non-invasive indicator of autonomic nervous system function. HRV recordings show artefacts due to technical and/or biological issues. The Kubios software is one of the most used software to process HRV recordings, offering different levels of threshold-based artefact correction (i.e., Kubios filters). The aim of the study was to analyze the impact of different Kubios filters on the quantification of HRV derived parameters from short-term recordings in three independent human cohorts. A total of 312 participants were included: 107 children with overweight/obesity (10.0 ±
Mediating Effects of Global Negative Effect Expectancies on the Association between Problematic Cannabis Use and Social Anxiety
2017
The relationship between social anxiety and cannabis use among adolescents and young adults is a highly debated topic. In this cross-sectional study, we tested whether cannabis use expectancies mediated the association between social anxiety and cannabis use severity in a sample of 343 young adults (74.3% male) who used cannabis. They completed self-report measures for the screening of problematic cannabis use (Cannabis Use Problems Identification Test) and social anxiety symptoms (Social Interaction Anxiety Scale and Social Phobia Scale). A multiple mediation analysis was used to test whether marijuana effect expectancies mediate social anxiety effect on problematic cannabis use. Social an…
Reflecting on Work Values with Young Unemployed Adults in Finland
2019
In this article, we explore the internal conversations about the work values of young unemployed adults in Finland. We draw on the theoretical concept of internal conversation by Margaret Archer in order to shift the focus from the individual work values to the interplay between subjective concerns and structural circumstances. The data consist of six group interviews conducted among 29 young unemployed adults. We argue that the internal conversations on work values of young unemployed adults constitute five significant concerns: self-realization and opportunity to contribute to society; sufficient income to live independently; social expectations; challenges of finding employment; and unsu…
