Preparative-Scale Synthesis of Vedejs Chiral DMAP Catalysts

A scalable synthesis of chiral Vedejs-type DMAP catalysts is reported. The key step of the synthesis is amination of the enantiomerically pure 4-chloropyridine derivative using well-defined ZnCl2(amine)2 complexes. A series of Zn(II)–amine complexes have been synthesized to explore the scope of the ZnCl2-mediated amination of 4-halopyridines. Mechanistic studies support a Zn(II)-facilitated nucleophilic aromatic substitution as a plausible mechanism for the chlorine-to-amine exchange.
Magneto-structural correlations in a family of ReIVCuII chains based on the hexachlororhenate(IV) metalloligand

Six novel one-dimensional chloro-bridged ReIVCuII complexes of formula {[Cu(L)4][ReCl6]}n, where L = imidazole (Imi, 1), 1-methylimidazole (Meim, 2), 1-vinylimidazole (Vim, 3), 1-butylimidazole (Buim, 4), 1-vinyl-1,2,4-triazole (Vtri, 5) and N,N’-dimethylformamide (DMF, 6) are characterised structurally, magnetically and theoretically. The structures exhibit significant differences in Cu–Cl bond lengths and Re–Cl–Cu bridging angles, resulting in large differences in the nature and magnitude of magnetic exchange interactions between the ReIV and CuII ions. Further synthetic and structural investigations of new pre-organized picket porphyrins

The straightforward synthesis of three new picket porphyrins with a restrained conformation is described. These porphyrins have an unusual behavior due to the conjugated but still flexible nature of their pickets. The crystal structure of their common precusor is also reported and confirms the presumed geometry of this type of picket. Indeed, the latter one is formally obtained by the conjugation of two aromatic rings through an amide bond. Although the specific shape of the picket is expected to overcrowd the center of the porphyrin, it is shown that different types of nucleophilic reagents can add easily on these pickets.

International audience; We report on the syntheses, crystal structures, and magnetic properties of two cyano-bridged molecular assemblies: [CuII(phen)3]2{[CuII(phen)2]2[WV(CN)8]2}(ClO4)2·10H2O (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) (1) and {[CuII(bpy)2]2[WV(CN)8]} {[CuII(bpy)2][WV(CN)8]}·4H2O (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridyl) (2). Compound 1 consists of cyano-bridged [CuII2WV2]2− molecular rectangles and isolated [CuII(phen)3]2+ complexes. The molecular structure of 2 reveals cyano-bridged trinuclear [CuII2WV]+ and dinuclear [CuIIWV]− ions. Determining Factors for the Unfolding Pathway of Peptides, Peptoids, and Peptidic Foldamers.

We present a study of the mechanical unfolding pathway of five different oligomers (α-peptide, β-peptide, δ-aromatic-peptides, α/γ-peptides, and β-peptoids), adopting stable helix conformations. Using force-probe molecular dynamics, we identify the determining structural factors for the unfolding pathways and reveal the interplay between the hydrogen bond strength and the backbone rigidity in the stabilization of their helix conformations. On the basis of their behavior, we classify the oligomers in four groups and deduce a set of rules for the prediction of the unfolding pathways of small foldamers.

The synthesis and magnetostructural characterization of [Fe(III)3(μ3-O)(H2O)3[Fe(II)(bppCOOH)(bppCOO)]6](ClO4)13·(CH3)2CO)6·(solvate) (2) are reported. This compound is obtained as a secondary product during synthesis of the mononuclear complex [Fe(II)(bppCOOH)2](ClO4)2 (1). The single-crystal X-ray diffraction structure of 2 shows that it contains the nonanuclear cluster of the formula [Fe(III)3(μ3-O)(H2O)3[Fe(II)(bppCOOH)(bppCOO)]6](13+), which is formed by a central Fe(III)3O core coordinated to six partially deprotonated [Fe(II)(bppCOOH)(bppCOO)](+) complexes. The combination of an (-)-isosteviol-derived building block and 9,9'-spirobifluorene or tetraphenylmethane generated highly potent new affinity materials for the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Comparison of their affinity behaviour with different core structures showed remarkable influence on selectivity and sensitivity due to structural rigidity and their pre-organization. Their unique supramolecular properties were investigated in an affinity assay using high fundamental frequency quartz crystal microbalances.

The synthesis, structure, and complete characterization of mono- and bimetallic dyads joining Fischer carbene complexes and BODIPY chromophores are reported. In these organometallic species, the Fischer carbene complex is attached to the BODIPY moiety through a p-aminophenyl group linked at the C8 carbon atom of the BODIPY core. The photophysical properties, namely the corresponding UV/vis absorption and emission spectra of these new metal-carbene complexes, are analyzed and discussed. Reaction of the [Fe I I I (CN) 6 ] 3 - anion with [Cu I I (tn)(H 2 O) n ] 2 + (tn = 1,3-diaminopropane) affords the compounds [{Cu I I (tn)} 2 -{Fe I I (CN) 6 }].KCl.5H 2 O (1), [(Cu"(tn))2(Fe"(CN) 6 )].4H 2 O (2), and [{Cu I I (tnH) 2 (H 2 O) 2 }{Fe I I (CN) 6 }].2H 2 O (3).
