Alberi e culti. Un contributo all’analisi degli elementi paesistici nella scultura a rilievo di età romana
2018
In the relief sculpture of Roman age, trees can perform different tasks, regardless of the type of monument they are represented in. In most cases trees are secondary elements, concurring to define the environment in which the carved scene takes place. But sometimes they assume a more important value and thus significatively contribute to the understanding of the content represented. A very interesting example in this regard we can see in a relief sculpted scene on a marble altar dedicated to the Matronae, coming from the Roman town of Angera, where four female devotees appear, engaged in a ritual dance under an oak. The comparison with other relief figurative scenes where landscape element…
Aroma release in the oral cavity after wine intake is influenced by wine matrix composition
2018
The aim of this study has been to investigate if wine matrix composition might influence the interaction between odorants and oral mucosa in the oral cavity during a “wine intake-like” situation. Aroma released after exposing the oral cavity of three individuals to different wines (n = 12) previously spiked with six target aromas was followed by an -in vivo intra-oral SPME approach. Results showed a significant effect of wine matrix composition on the intra-oral aroma release of certain odorants. Among the wine matrix parameters, phenolic compounds showed the largest impact. This effect was dependent on their chemical structure. Some phenolic acids (e.g. hippuric, caffeic) were associated t…
Occurrence and risk assessment of mycotoxins, acrylamide, and furan in Latvian beer.
2018
This work reports data on the occurrence of nine mycotoxins and two food processing contaminants - acrylamide and furan - in a total of 100 beers produced in Latvia. Mycotoxins were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry, acrylamide by HPLC coupled with quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometry, and furan by headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The most frequently occurring mycotoxins were HT-2 and deoxynivalenol (DON), which were detected in 52% and 51% of the analysed samples. The highest content was observed for DON, reaching the maximum of 248 µg kg-1. Furan was ubiquitous, and 74% of the samples contained acrylamid…
Determination of alcohols in essential oils by liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection after chromogenic derivatization
2013
Abstract An HPLC-UV method to determine compounds having a hydroxyl functional group in plant essential oils is developed. The sample is diluted with 1,4-dioxane and the analytes are derivatized with phthalic anhydride. The derivatives (phthalates hemiesters) are separated on a C8 column using an acetonitrile (ACN)/water gradient. Separation conditions were optimized using the DryLab® method development software. For the alcohols and phenols present in mint and rose essential oils, optimization led to a ca. 40 min gradient time and a column temperature of 8 °C. The alcohol and its derivatives were identified using HPLC with mass spectrometry (MS) detection. A large sensitivity enhancement w…
Aldosterone synthase activity in the Y-1 adrenal cell line.
1995
The Y-1 adrenal cell line was shown to produce 20 alpha-dihydroaldosterone from deoxycorticosterone. This compound was identified by GC-MS by comparison with the previously synthesized reference compound. Two other 18-hydroxylated metabolites were identified as 11 beta,18-dihydroxy-20 alpha-dihydroprogesterone from endogenous cholesterol and 18-hydroxy-20 alpha-dihydro-11-dehydrocorticosterone from DOC. The conditions necessary for the synthesis of these compounds are culturing in 20% serum-supplemented medium and repeated incubations with the substrate. The production of 11 beta-hydroxylated steroids and that of 18-oxygenated steroids is stimulated differently by ACTH and angiotensin II su…
Paesaggio catastale, paesaggio letterario e archeologia del paesaggio. Tre percezioni a confronto
2008
Our aim is to compare three possible and different perceptions of the agricultural landscape of Hellenistic and Roman Sicily: the "cadrastal" landscape as shown in the Tables of Halaisa, the literary landscape, as evidenced by sources as the poetry of Theocritus, and the landscape reconstructed through archaeological surveys (landscape archaeology). Each of these readings, with reference to the real territory of Halaisa, reveals itself as a different perception, mediated by the elements considered, the available data and the purpose of the approach: in the Tables the detection of the boundaries of public-owned lots, in the poetry of Theocritus the creation of an ideal landscape, connected, …
A rigidity theorem for Lagrangian deformations
2005
We consider deformations of singular Lagrangian varieties in symplectic manifolds. We prove that a Lagrangian deformation of a Lagrangian complete intersection is analytically rigid provided that this is the case infinitesimally. This result is given as a consequence of the coherence of the direct image sheaves of relative infinitesimal Lagrangian deformations.
Preferential localization of Lactococcus lactis cells entrapped in a caseinate/alginate phase separated system.
2013
International audience; This study aimed to entrap bioprotective lactic acid bacteria in a sodium caseinate/sodium alginate aqueous two-phase system. Phase diagram at pH = 7 showed that sodium alginate and sodium caseinate were not miscible when their concentrations exceeded 1% (w/w) and 6% (w/w), respectively. The stability of the caseinate/alginate two-phase system was also checked at pH values of 6.0 and 5.5. Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis LAB3 cells were added in a 4% (w/w) caseinate/1.5% (w/w) alginate two-phase system at pH = 7. Fluorescence microscopy allowed to observe that the caseinate-rich phase formed droplets dispersed in a continuous alginate-rich phase. The distribution of …
