FPGA based digital lock-in amplifier for fNIRS systems
2018
Lock-In Amplifiers (LIA) represent a powerful technique helping to improve signals detectability when low signal to noise ratios are experienced. Continuous Wave functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (CW-fNIRS) systems for e-health applications usually suffer of poor detection due to the presence of strong attenuations of the optical recovering path and therefore small signals are severely dipped in a high noise floor. In this work a digital LIA system, implemented on a Zynq® Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), has been designed and tested to verify the quality of the developed solution, when applied in fNIRS systems. Experimental results have shown the goodness of the proposed solutions.
Dynamic Consensus: Increasing Blockchain Adaptability to Enterprise Applications
2020
Decentralization powered by blockchain is validated for its capability to build trust like no other computational system before. The evolution of blockchain models has opened new use-cases that are becoming operational in many industry fields such as: energy, healthcare, banking, cross-border trade, aerospace, supply chain, and others. The core component of a decentralized architecture is the consensus algorithm - the set of rules that ensures an automated and fair agreement between the actors in the same network. Classic consensus algorithms are tailored to solve specific problems, but in an open ecosystem, each business case is unique and needs a certain level of customization. This paper…
Magnetic domain structure of La0.7Sr0.3MnO 3 thin-films probed at variable temperature with scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis
2013
The domain configuration of 50 nm thick La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 films has been directly investigated using scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis (SEMPA), with magnetic contrast obtained without the requirement for prior surface preparation. The large scale domain structure reflects a primarily four-fold anisotropy, with a small uniaxial component, consistent with magneto-optic Kerr effect measurements. We also determine the domain transition profile and find it to be in agreement with previous estimates of the domain wall width in this material. The temperature dependence of the image contrast is investigated and compared to superconducting-quantum interference device magnetometry …
Amorphous ultra-wide bandgap ZnOx thin films deposited at cryogenic temperatures
2020
Crystalline wurtzite zinc oxide (w-ZnO) can be used as a wide band gap semiconductor for light emitting devices and for transparent or high temperature electronics. The use of amorphous zinc oxide (a-ZnO) can be an advantage in these applications. In this paper we report on X-ray amorphous a-ZnOx thin films (~500 nm) deposited at cryogenic temperatures by reactive magnetron sputtering. The substrates were cooled by a nitrogen flow through the copper substrate holder during the deposition. The films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman, infrared, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopies, and ellipsometry. The a-ZnOx films on glass and Ti substrates were obtained at the substrate holder temp…
Dielectric response of BaTiO3 electronic states under AC fields via microsecond time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy
2021
Abstract For the first time, the dielectric response of a BaTiO 3 thin film under an AC electric field is investigated using microsecond time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the Ti K-edge in order to clarify correlated contributions of each constituent atom on the electronic states. Intensities of the pre-edge e g peak and shoulder structure just below the main edge increase with an increase in the amplitude of the applied electric field, whereas that of the main peak decreases in an opposite manner. Based on the multiple scattering theory, the increase and decrease of the e g and main peaks are simulated for different Ti off-center displacements. Our results indicate that these s…
Maximum Torque Per Ampere control algorithm for low saliency ratio interior permanent magnet synchronous motors
2017
This paper presents an investigation on the comparison between the Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) and the Field Orientation Control (FOC) algorithms for interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSMs). In particular, this study was carried out on a small-power IPMSM with low salience ratio. Both control algorithms have been implemented in the Matlab/Simulink environment, obtaining promising results.
Thermal- and photo-induced spin crossover in the 1D coordination polymer [Fe(4-tBupy)3][Au(CN)2]2 (4-tBupy = 4-tert-butylpyridine)
2021
Reaction of the unidentate pyridine ligand containing a bulky t-butyl substituent with Fe2+ and [Au(CN)2]− affords a new type of spin crossover (SCO) coordination polymer in the 1D compound [Fe(4-tBupy)3][Au(CN)2]2⋅0.5H2O (1), which is formed by chains of Fe(II) complexes linked through bridging [Au(CN)2]− with three terminal 4-tBupy and one monodentate [Au(CN)2]− ligands completing the octahedral coordination around Fe(II). Longer reaction times led to the minor products [Fe(4-tBupy)2][Au(CN)2]2 (2), which presents a 2D structure more similar to that found in the other SCO compounds based on [Au(CN)2]−, and the 1D compound [Fe(4-tBupy)2(MeOH)][Au(CN)2]2 (3), in which one of the three termi…
X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy studies in Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-SrTiO3-PbTiO3 solid solutions
2016
The long and short range orders in 0.4Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-(0.6-x)SrTiO3-xPbTiO3 solid solutions were studied by x-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction patterns for these composition...
Correlative study of structural and optical properties of ZnSe under severe plastic deformation
2019
The effect of plastic deformation on the optical and structural properties of ZnSe crystals has been investigated. The optical properties have been monitored by cathodoluminescence measurements as a function of the deformation degree. Remarkable differences in the defect-related emissions from the most severely deformed areas have been encountered. Deformation of the crystal lattice of ZnSe, associated with slip phenomena, has been studied by means of Electron Backscattered Diffraction and micro-Raman spectroscopy. The relation between the deformation and the optical properties of the ZnSe crystals has been described.
Low energy nano diffraction (LEND) – A versatile diffraction technique in SEM
2019
Abstract Electron diffraction is a powerful characterization method that is used across different fields and in different instruments. In particular, the power of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) largely relies on the capability to switch between imaging and diffraction mode enabling identification of crystalline phases and in-depth studies of crystal defects, to name only examples. In contrast, while diffraction techniques have found their way into the realm of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in the form of electron backscatter diffraction and related techniques, on-axis transmission diffraction is still in its infancy. Here we present a simple but versatile setup that enables a ‘…
