2008

A new dibenzofuran named 1,2,4-trimethyl-7,8-dimethoxy-dibenzofuran (1), together with seven known compounds, euparin (2), 2,5-diacetyl-6-hydroxy-benzofuran (3), 2-acetyl-5,6-dimethoxy-benzofuran (4), gummosogenin (5), lupeol (6), stigmasterol (7) and (E)-2,5-dihydroxy-cinnamic acid (8), were isolated from the roots of Ligularia caloxantha, a Chinese medicinal plant. The structures of the compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods.

Isomotiol, a new triterpene from strychnos potatorum

1978

Isomotiol (fern-8-en-3β-ol) was isolated from the leaves of Strychnos potatorum; it was not known previously as a natural product, but it has been obtained by acidic isomerization of compounds with a fern-7-ene or a fern-9(11)-ene skeleton. From the leaves and the bark mixtures of sitosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol were also isolated.

Carbohydrates as Stereodifferentiating Auxiliaries

2017

Carbohydrates are inexpensive natural products. Although they contain numerous functional groups and stereogenic centers in one molecule, carbohydrates were recognized as stereodifferentiating auxiliaries much later than other classes of natural products as for example amino acids or terpenes. Apart from their polyfunctional nature carbohydrates are characterized by the anomeric and exo-anomeric effects which have distinct influence of the spatial orientation of substituents linked to the anomeric position. Based on these stereochemical properties carbohydrates were used as stereodifferentiating auxiliaries in numerous diastereoselective reactions, such as aldol addition, alkylation reactio…

ChemInform Abstract: Stereoselective Synthesis of 8,12-Furanoeudesmanes from Santonin. Absolute Stereochemistry of Natural Furanoeudesma-1,3-diene an…

2010

Ketobutenolide 3, easily obtained from santonin (1), has been transformed into two natural furanoeudesmanes 4 and 5, isolated from Commiphora molmol and Tubipora musica, respectively. trans- And cis-decalin systems were obtained by stereoselective reduction of the C4−C5 double bond in 3 in the following way:  hydrogenation of 3 over Pd/C followed by acidic treatment gave the cis isomer 10 as the major product; selective hydrogenation of the C1-C2 double bond with the Wilkinson’s catalyst followed by reduction with NaTeH yielded mainly the trans isomer 9. Compounds 9 and 10 were transformed into 4 and 5 in parallel sequences. Optical rotation and CD measurements of the synthetic products rev…

Triterpenoid saponins from Piptadeniastrum africanum (Hook. f.) Brenan

2013

One new triterpenoid saponin, named piptadeniaoside (1), along with two known saponins (2–3) have been isolated from the stem bark of Piptadeniastrum africanum. After previous isolation of flavone derivatives from this plant, new phytochemical investigations were performed for its saponin content. Their structures were established by direct interpretation of their spectral data, mainly HRESIMS, 1D NMR (1H, 13C NMR, DEPT) and 2D NMR (COSY, NOESY, HSQC and HMBC), and by comparison with the literature data.

Bridge-Clamp Bis(tetrazine)s with [N] 8 π-Stacking Interactions and Azido- s -Aryl Tetrazines: Two Classes of Doubly Clickable Tetrazines

2020

Click chemistry at a tetrazine core is useful for bioorthogonal labeling and crosslinking. Introduced here are two new classes of doubly clickable s-aryl tetrazines synthesized by Cu-catalyzed cross-coupling. Homocoupling of o-brominated s-aryl tetrazines leads to bis(tetrazine)s structurally characterized by tetrazine cores arranged face-to-face. [N]8 π-stacking interactions are essential to the conformation. Upon inverse electron demand Diels-Alder (iEDDA) cycloaddition, the bis(tetrazine)s produce a unique staple structure. The o-azidation of s-aryl tetrazines introduces a second proximal intermolecular clickable function that leads to double click chemistry opportunities. The stepwise i…

Inhibition of herpesvirus DNA synthesis by 9-beta-D-arabinofuranosyladenine in cellular and cell-free systems.

1977

9-beta-D-Arabinofuranosyladenine 5'-triphosphate (ara-ATP) is an inhibitor both of DNA polymerase-alpha and -beta from noninfected rabbit kidney cells and of the DNA-dependent DNA polymerase induced by herpes simplex virus Type 1 (strain IES). The studies were performed with partially purified enzymes, and each of the different polymerase preparations contained only one DNA-dependent DNA polymerase species. These enzymes were inhibited in a competitive manner. The HSV-induced DNA-dependent DNA polymerase was 39-fold more sensitive to ara-ATP than was cellular DNA polymerase-beta and 116-fold more sensitive than cellular DNA polymerase-alpha. The affinity of the HSV-induced enzyme for ara-AT…

Vaccinium Genus Berry Waxes and Oils

2019

Vaccinium is a common and widespread genus of about 450 species of shrubs or dwarf shrubs in the heath family (Ericaceae). Most of Vaccinium species produce edible berries and many berries are widely cultivated at an industrial scale, for example, bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus L.), highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.), lingonberries (Vaccinium vitis-idaea L.), and cranberries (Vaccinium oxycoccos L.). These berries are important articles in the markets of berries in Northern countries both raw, and processed. Vaccinium berries are at first valued considering high vitamin concentrations as well as high concentrations of phenolics. However, also oils and waxes (lipids) of Vacciniu…

Sesquiterpene lactones, waxes and volatile compounds from Artemisia herba-alba subspecies Valentina

1979

Abstract The structures of two sesquiterpene lactones isolated from Artemisia herba-alba subsp. valentina have been determined by spectroscopic methods. One of these was dihydroreynosin, the other was a new compound assigned the name torrentin. The chemical compositions of a wax and a hydrocarbon fraction from the essential oil have also been investigated.
