This dissertation examines the impact that the materiality of institutions has on patients and staff. Fieldwork has been carried out at five district psychiatric centres (Distriktspsykiatriske sentra, DPS) that were originally built as tuberculosis institutions. The patients’ and employees’ experiences of being present in the physical and social space of these institutions has been examined, interpreted and reflected upon. The paper provides knowledge about the significance institutions’ materiality and inner life has on the informants, and how the informants influence the materiality. Ikääntyneiden ihmisten kuuluu saada osallistua yhteiskuntaan. Osallisuutta pidetään aktiivisen ikääntymisen yhtenä piirteenä. Jos ikääntynyt on kykenemätön osallistumaan haluamaansa toimintaan, muodostuu tästä tyydyttymätön osallisuuden tarve. Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää tyydyttymättömään osallisuuden ja ulkoilun tarpeeseen yhteydessä olevia tekijöitä yli 65 – vuotiailla kotona asuvilla henkilöillä. Tässä tutkimuksessa analysoitiin vuonna 2009-2011 kerättyä vapaaehtoistyö, ulkoliikunta ja vanhusten hyvinvointi (VAU)- tutkimushankkeen alkumittausaineistoa. Luku- ja kirjoitustaito muodostivat 1800-luvun puolivälissä sekä yksilön että hänen lähiyhteisönsä näkökulmasta tärkeää aineetonta pääomaa, koska etenkin maaseudulla ne olivat harvinaisia taitoja. Niiden avulla oli mahdollista saavuttaa hitaasti karttuvaa yhteisöllistä luottamusta, rakentaa verkostoja ja saavuttaa henkilökohtaisia etuja, joista monet liittyivät myös taloudelliseen menestykseen. Näitä taitoja saattoi käyttää myös pikavoittojen hankkimiseen yhteisöllisten normien näkökulmasta kyseenalaisin keinoin, esimerkiksi väärentämällä rahaa. Coaches’ Perceptions of Athletes’ Psychobiosocial States : The Case of Three Tennis Coach-Athlete Dyads

Considering the limited attention paid to interpersonal aspects of emotions, this study explored coaches’ perceptions of athletes’ performance-related states and how they used this information for its regulation. Using a case study approach, three coach-athlete dyads from competitive tennis took part in one-on-one semi-structured interviews. Individualized profiling of psychobiosocial states was used to assess athletes’ states in most and least successful performances and as a way of data triangulation. Music performance anxiety (MPA) is a prevalent phenomenon with potentially serious consequences to a musician’s wellbeing and professional career. Yet, MPA does not always affect performance quality.
