The Relationship between Risk-Taking, Sensation-Seeking, and the Tourist Behavior of Young Adults: A Cross-Cultural Study

This study analyzed the effects of the combined psychological characteristics of risk-taking and sensation seeking on the travel behavior and preferred tourist activities of young adults on leisure trips. The results of this cross-cultural study, which was conducted among 1,429 students at 11 universities located in 11 different countries, found that respondents with high combined risk-taking and sensation seeking (RSS) scores differed significantly in their travel behavior, mode of destination choice, preferred tourist activities and demographics, from those who had low RSS scores. The study also discovered a significant difference between nationalities on RSS scores.
RSS-eye: Human-assisted Indoor Localization without Radio Maps

The pervasive diffusion of smartphones is boosting indoor positioning solutions and location-based services. We propose a novel methodology to perform indoor positioning of mobile users by the estimation of angles of arrival from access points whose locations are known. Angles of arrival are estimated by correlating WiFi RSSI measurements with data coming from a digital compass, which is provided by most current handsets. Our system has minimal requirements in terms of infrastructure and mobile hardware. This Research-to-Practice, Work in Progress Paper focuses on how learners experience creation of infographics as a summarizing assignment in an advanced level e-course on software engineering management (SEM). We have previously investigated how learners perceive infographics as a repeated reflection assignment during a requirements engineering e-course. To complement this research project, we studied how learners experience the use of infographics as a method for summarizing a whole software engineering management course in e-education setting. Building on Ilse van Liempt’s (2023) lecture, this commentary addresses the connection and shift between forced displacement and local emplacement by addressing what becoming part of the city means for racialized immigrants. By bringing forward the notion of racialization I hope to contribute to a growing body of literature discussing how malleable and productive the concept of race – albeit erased and relegated to the past – keeps on shaping conversations about and across Europe. Päihteidenkäytön vaikutusta lapsiin ja perheisiin on tutkittu laajasti ja päihteiden käytön negatiivisista vaikutuksista perheiden hyvinvointiin on kiistattomat tulokset.
