State Estimation of a Nonlinear Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Model using an Extended Kalman Filter

An Extended Kalman Filter is designed in order to estimate both state variables and wind velocity vector at the same time for a non conventional unmanned aircraft. The proposed observer uses few measurements, obtained by means of either conventional simple air data sensors or a low cost GPS. To cope with the low rate of the GPS with respect to the other sensors, the EKF algorithm has been modified to allow for a dual rate measurement model. State propagation is obtained by means of an accurate six degrees of freedom nonlinear model of the aircraft dynamics. Elementary school principals’ work from the ecological systems perspective: Evidence from Finland

The present study aimed to investigate elementary school principals’ work from the ecological systems perspective and which elements of their work are experienced as demands or resources. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 22 principals. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyse the data. The results show that the way principals experience their work is individual and influenced by several internal and external factors. Some of the most extensive demands appear to be related to interaction with different stakeholders in situations where principals have the role of mediator in solving conflicting situations. Naisten määrä pörssiyhtiöiden hallituksissa on alhainen lähes kaikkialla maailmassa. Poikkeus on Norja, jossa lainsäädäntö määrää, että molempien sukupuolten edustus listattujen yritysten hallituksissa on oltava 40 %. Naisten määrän lisäämistä hallituksissa pidetään tärkeänä, sillä tutkimusten mukaan yhtiöt, joiden hallituksissa on naisia, saavuttavat parempia tuloksia. Sustainability in executive remuneration : A missing link towards more sustainable firms?

This paper contributes by showing simultaneously the interlinked challenges of sustainability-based (based on long-term economic, social and environmental targets) executive remuneration and the problems of transparency in remuneration reporting. Our empirical data, analyzed using qualitative content analysis, consists of the published remuneration statements and sustainability reports of 43 Finnish companies reporting according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework. This study explores the writings of Sylvia Plath Forum, a discussion forum in the Internet that was launched in 1998. Using Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis, Chaïm Perelman’s theory of argumentation, Kenneth Burke’s idea of identification as the basis of rhetoric, and René Girards’s theory of mimetic desire as its framework this study looks into the forum’s meaning-making processes and the ways the author Sylvia Plath (1932-1963) and her readers are represented on the forum. This study explores how five pre-service subject teachers from different disciplines made sense of and characterized their teacher identity after completing their yearlong pedagogical studies. Leaning on the Bakhtinian dialogical approach and socio-culturally oriented discourse analysis, we examine how the students negotiated multiple voices in their narratives (interviews) and how they positioned themselves in relation to these voices. Esiteollista aikakautta tutkiville rahassa mitattavien arvojen yhteismitallistamista vaikeuttaa se, että käytössä oli tyypillisesti yhtä aikaa useita valuuttoja. Lisäksi osa valuutoista oli fyysisiä, kierrossa olleita rahoja, osaa taas käytettiin ainoastaan käsitteellisinä tilivaluuttoina rahallisen arvon määrittämiseen.
