Tutkielma tarkastelee Suomen turvallisuuspoliittisen keskustelun turvallisuusdiskursseja ja erilaisten tulkintarepertuaarien käyttöä turvallisuuskysymysten tulkinnassa. This article examines professional communication in a multilingual meeting in a small company in Finland within ethnographic, sociolinguistic, and discourse analytic frameworks. English is used as a lingua franca by a group of Finnish and Chinese business professionals. The aim is to study how language is used with other semiotic resources to construct meaning in interaction. In particular, with the focus on an individual participant who was the mediator in the meeting, the goal is to analyze participants’ role alignment and interpersonal relationships. Vaihto-opiskelijat tulevat Suomeen opiskelemaan usein sen takia että suomalaiset osaavat niin hyvin englantia. Suomalaisiin tutustuminen koetaan kuitenkin erittäin haastavaksi. Yhteyksien puuttuminen vaihto-opiskelijoiden ja suomalaisten välillä onkin yksi suurimmista epäkohdista Suomessa opiskelemisessa. Miten englanninkielisen opintotarjonnan perässä tulevat vaihto-opiskelijat saataisiin lähemmäksi suomalaista kulttuuria ja yhteiskuntaa? Yksi ratkaisu löytyy kielikursseista. AbstractKaasik-Krogerus scrutinizes the European Heritage Label (EHL) as an authorized heritage discourse (AHD) in the making. She analyses how the discourse is formed in a politics of mobility and stability between the local, national, and European scales resulting from the interplay of europeanization (of the national and local) and domestication (of the European). AbstractThis article investigates the construction of gender identities of Pakistani men and women Facebook users given that Facebook has emerged as the prime social media platform through which Pakistani users interact. The article aims at combining two methodological approaches, namely corpus linguistics and discourse studies. Both of these approaches are present in corpus-assisted discourse studies (CADS) which makes use of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. First, an attempt is made to discuss the differences and similarities of these two traditions based on Leech’s (2000) listing. However, it turns out that this listing does not include all necessary viewpoints, and those are further discussed.
