Paisaje y nacionalismo en el primer franquismo
2016
Assuming the theoretical idea widely developed by Human Geography that landscapes are cultural constructions with the capacity to become symbolic elements within nationalist discourses, this article explores the context of early Francoism. The aim of these pages is to analyze landscape sensibility as well as the landscape idea developed by the francoist nationalist discourse by trying to draw out three inherent elements in it: first of all, following Oliver Zimmer’s work, the nationalization of nature, this is to say, the consideration that nature expresses the community’s myths, events or memories; secondly, the naturalisation of the nation, that projects upon landscapes the capacity to de…
The cost of open access publication of papers by spanish authors in five areas of the social sciences
2021
Bioethics and neuroethics
2019
Neuroethics officially appeared at the start of the 21st century due to the progress made by the neurosciences, as an applied ethics related to bioethics, but also as an independent discipline in its own right. As an applied ethics, it tackles issues bordering on bioethics. As independent neuroethics, it deals with established philosophical problems from a neuroscientific standpoint in the broader sense. It involves two central questions: the design of a framework in which to select, interpret and integrate data from neuroscience on morality and outlining the appropriate method or methods for this new branch of knowledge. In both cases, most neuroethicists curiously claim to take a naturali…
Male sex pheromone of cockroach Eurycotis floridana (Walker) (Blattidae, Polyzosteriinae): role and composition of tergites 2 and 8 secretions
1994
0098-0331; In Eurycotis floridana, the male calling behavior is associated with the exposition of epidermal glands located under tergites 2, 7, and 8. 4-Hydroxy-5-methyl-3(2H)-furanone and 4-hydroxy-2,5-dimethyl-3(2H)-furanone were recently identified as the specific components of tergite 7 secretion. Methylene chloride extracts of tergite 7 and its major compound 4-hydroxy-5-methyl-3(2H)-furanone attract the conspecific females at a distance. Methylene chloride extracts of tergite 8 are also attractive at a distance to the females, whereas extracts of tergite 2 had no effect on males and females. Our GC investigations showed the absence of specific compounds in tergite 2 secretions. The GC…
Tergal glands of male and femaleCryptocercus punctulatus scudder (Dictyoptera: Cryptocercidae): Composition, sexual dimorphism, and geographic variat…
1991
International audience; Males and females of Cryptocercus punctulatus possess tergal glands, but they differ in position, size, morphology, and secretion chemistry. Compound A (linalyl acetate) is the most abundant of the 21 compounds found only in the secretion of these glands. Compound B, 4,6,8-trimethyl-7,9-undecadien-5-ol, is specific to the tergal secretion of females.C. punctulatus lives only in the United States; its distribution is disjunct. Compound A is found in samples from the eastern population but is absent in samples from the western population. The amount of compound B per gland in samples from the western population is at least twice as high as in the samples from the easte…
Study of a New Population of the Argentinian Endemic Species Riella choconensis Hässel (Riellaceae, Marchantiophyta) Reveals a Novel Anatomical Struc…
2019
A new population of the Argentinian endemic Riella choconensis Hässel (Riellaceae, Marchantiophyta) was discovered from a culture of sediments from the Laguna de los Juncos (Río Negro province, Argentina). This species was known previously from two nearby collections, made in 1984, in the type locality at the Ramos Mexía reservoir (Neuquén province) and was not recorded since. Fresh material from the new population enabled detailed morphological analyses, which are extensively described here, illustrated and compared to type material of the species. Based on the smooth female involucre, the species belongs to subgenus Riella Mont. However, cross-sections of this structure showed that R. cho…
Sexual selection on song and cuticular hydrocarbons in two distinct populations ofDrosophila montana
2011
Sexual selection has the potential to contribute to population divergence and speciation. Most studies of sexual selection in Drosophila have concentrated on a single signaling modality, usually either courtship song or cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs), which can act as contact pheromones. We have examined the relationship between both signal types and reproductive success using F1–3 offspring of wild-collected flies, raised in the lab. We used two populations of the Holarctic species Drosophila montana that represent different phylogeographic clades that have been separate for ca. 0.5 million years (MY), and differ to some extent in both traits. Here, we characterize the nature and identify t…

Cuticular Wax Composition of Wild and Cultivated Northern Berries
2020
The outer-most layer of plant surface, the cuticle, consists of epi- and intra-cuticular wax. It protects the plant from dehydration, extreme temperatures and UV radiation, as well as attacks from pests such as molds and bacteria. Berry cuticular waxes are studied to understand the metabolism character (factors affecting wax layer composition in different berry species) and increase the microbial resistance and shelf life of berries. The aim of this study was analysis of the surface wax composition of nine species of wild and cultivated berries from Northern Europe. Cuticular wax analysis were done using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. A total of 59 different compounds were identified…
Hyperbaric Storage of Fruit Juice and Impact on Composition
2018
International audience; One of the main parameters affecting fruit juice preservation is the temperature over storage. Spoilage is further delayed by reducing the temperature, which although valuable, leads to high energy costs. Recently, hyperbaric storage has appeared as an alternative preservation methodology by a microbial growth inhibition similarly to refrigeration storage, showing great potential for energy savings, as well as carbon footprint reduction, as it could be applied at room temperature. Recent publications revealed the possibility to preserve fruit juice under pressure at variable/uncontrolled room temperature, meaning that energy is only required in the compression/decomp…
