Transcription analysis of the genes tcdA-E of the pathogenicity locus of Clostridium difficile.

1997

To analyse the transcription pattern of the five tcdA-E genes of the pathogenicity locus (PaLoc) of Clostridium difficile a protocol was established to purify RNA from strain VPI10463. Transcription analysis of the five tcdA-E genes showed that they were all transcribed. In the early exponential phase, a high level of tcdC and low levels of tcdA,B,D,E transcripts were detectable; this was inverted in the stationary phase, suggesting that TcdC might have a negative influence on transcription of the other genes. Three transcription initiation sites, one for tcdA and two for tcdB were determined by primer extension analysis. Readthrough transcripts from outside the locus were not obtainable, s…

Pseudomonas corrugata crpCDE is part of the cyclic lipopeptide corpeptin biosynthetic gene cluster and is involved in bacterial virulence in tomato a…

2014

Summary: Pseudomonas corrugataCFBP 5454 produces two kinds of cyclic lipopeptides (CLPs), cormycin A and corpeptins, both of which possess surfactant, antimicrobial and phytotoxic activities. In this study, we identified genes coding for a putative non-ribosomal peptide synthetase and an ABC-type transport system involved in corpeptin production. These genes belong to the same transcriptional unit, designated crpCDE. The genetic organization of this locus is highly similar to other PseudomonasCLP biosynthetic clusters. Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight-mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) analysis revealed that transporter and synthetase genomic knock-out mutants were u…

A Rule-Based Multi-agent System for Local Traffic Management

2009

Road Traffic presents a high dynamism which makes necessary the development of traffic management and control strategies to improve traffic flows and more important, road safety. So it is needed the use of intelligent systems to support traffic organizations and road operators to cope with incidents. In this paper we introduce a local autonomous system for traffic management. This way, though there could be a breakdown in the communications between the local system and the TCC, the local system will be able to warn the road users in case of incidents. The system uses multiagent technology to work with the specific characteristics of traffic domain. The expert MAS system is ruled-based that …

Selection of Debaryomyces hansenii isolates as starters in meat products based on phenotypic virulence factors, tolerance to abiotic stress condition…

2021

Debaryomyces hansenii is a yeast widely used in meat fermentations as starter for the purpose of improving the aromatic quality of the final product. However, it has not been the subject of an extensive study regarding phenotypic characteristics important for starter selection, such as the capacity to grow at abiotic stress conditions occurring during fermentation, the ability to generate desirable aromas and the absence of virulence traits in yeasts.

The foundations of decision theory: An intuitive, operational approach with mathematical extensions

1985

A new axiomatic basis for the foundations of decision theory is introduced and its mathematical development outlined. The system combines direct intuitive operational appeal with considerable structural flexibility in the resulting mathematical framework.

Business Constraints Integration in a Search Engine Optimization Fuzzy Decision Support System

2017

The Internet has dramatically changed the way companies can reach their clients. Henceforth, to develop their business online, companies have to drive qualified traffic to their website. For this, their website must be visible in the first pages of search engine results. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) permits the improvement of the position of a website on the search engines results pages. However, the practice of SEO is complex, and results are uncertain, because search engines do not communicate much about their ranking methods. Moreover, this activity takes time, and requires the implementation of modifications that can alter the visual appearance of the webpages. This paper proposes a…

Rough Set Theory for Supporting Decision Making on Relevance in Browsing Multilingual Digital Resources

2017

Browsing digital library (DL) collections seems to pose a challenge for a user owning to the number of factors like for instance, operability of the system, interface readability or clarity, and retrieval efficiency directly related to it, or the number of digital items within the user’s domain. However, when it comes to searching for an item in a foreign language to the user, the number of the factors arises even more which translates proportionally to the growing number of clicks aimed to retrieve the target item. Such a procedure usually leads to disheartening the user from browsing the digital collections. Our study into the user’s behavior interacting with multilingual DL system is set…

Inequality, the Other Virus. An Analysis of Argentina’s Situation

2021

While we are writing this paper we find ourselves in a very different world from the one we lived in a few months ago. The COVID-19 pandemic has been wreaking havoc on our daily lives, affecting our family, friends and professional relationships. It has forced us to adapt to what will undoubtedly be a new (a)normality. However, the pandemic also has effects on the macro level. States have had to adapt their structure to combat an invisible enemy, which has been expanding itself with every kiss, talk and hug. The responses were varied, -more or less successful-, but there was certainly no concrete recipe that effectively worked for dealing with the coronavirus. In this context, Argentina was…

Density gradient expansion of correlation functions

2013

We present a general scheme based on nonlinear response theory to calculate the expansion of correlation functions such as the pair-correlation function or the exchange-correlation hole of an inhomogeneous many-particle system in terms of density derivatives of arbitrary order. We further derive a consistency condition that is necessary for the existence of the gradient expansion. This condition is used to carry out an infinite summation of terms involving response functions up to infinite order from which it follows that the coefficient functions of the gradient expansion can be expressed in terms the local density profile rather than the background density around which the expansion is ca…
