Deep learning approach for prediction of impact peak appearance at ground reaction force signal of running activity
2020
Protruding impact peak is one of the features of vertical ground reaction force (GRF) that is related to injury risk while running. The present research is dedicated to predicting GRF impact peak appearance by setting a binary classification problem. Kinematic data, namely a number of raw signals in the sagittal plane, collected by the Vicon motion capture system (Oxford Metrics Group, UK) were employed as predictors. Therefore, the input data for the predictive model are presented as a multi-channel time series. Deep learning techniques, namely five convolutional neural network (CNN) models were applied to the binary classification analysis, based on a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) classifi…
Biochemical adaptations in middle-distance runners: an assessment of blood and anthropometric parameters
2014
In order to understand the mechanism underlying the physiological adaptation of purely aerobic workout, we investigated the effect of 2 months of training on nine males (17-22 year-old) middle distance running agonistic athletes. Blood sample was collected in the morning to analyze: hematological parameters, lipid profile, liver function enzymes [glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, glutamate pyruvate transaminase, gamma-glutamyl transferase (γ-GT)] and skeletal and myocardial markers of muscle damage [creatin kinase (CK) and creatin kinase MB (CK-MB)]. Endurance training, as it implies high oxygen consumption, should increase reactive oxygen species, but it has been shown that exercise lea…
Lumbar mobility in former élite male weight-lifters, soccer players, long-distance runners and shooters
1996
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the long-term effects of different loading conditions in sports and work on lumbar mobility. DESIGN: Factors associated with lumbar mobility were sought by examining sports experience, occupational history, back pain history, anthropometric characteristics, and lumbar magnetic resonance images in 114 former Finnish male élite athletes: 30 soccer players, 29 weight-lifters, 27 long-distance runners, and 28 shooters, aged 45-68 yr. BACKGROUND: Back pain and aging reduce spinal mobility, whereas some sports may increase it. Little is known about the effects of common loading conditions found in work and sports, that do not require extremes of spinal motion on lumbar m…
Inter-individual different responses to continuous and interval training in recreational middle-aged women runners
2020
A crucial subject in sports is identifying the inter-individual variation in response to training, which would allow creating individualized pre-training schedules, improving runner’s performance. We aimed to analyze heterogeneity in individual responses to two half-marathon training programs differing in running volume and intensity in middle-aged recreational women. 20 women (40 ± 7 years, 61 ± 7 kg, 167 ± 6 cm, and VO2max = 48 ± 6 mL⋅kg–1⋅min–1) underwent either moderate-intensity continuous (MICT) or high-intensity interval (HIIT) 12-week training. They were evaluated before and after training with maximal incremental tests in the laboratory (VO2max) and in the field (time to exhaustion…
