DNA-dependent DNA polymerase pattern in noninfected and herpesvirus infected rabbit kidney cells.
1973
In this paper we report on a DNA-dependent DNA polymerase produced in herpesvirus infected cells which is not present in virions. It differs from the polymerases of noninfected cells by its molecular weight as well as by its insensitivity to cytosine arabinoside triphosphate (ara-CTP).
Biological activity of 2-phenylethanol and its derivatives
1973
The biosynthesis of herpesvirus DNA in rabbit kidney cells is inhibited to 50% by PEA (2-Phenylethanol) at 0.65 mg PEA/ml. The inhibition of cellular DNA synthesis in uninfected cells by PEA is about twice as sensitive as that of viral DNA synthesis.
The influence of ossein-hydroxyapatite compound ('Ossopan') on the healing of a bone defect.
1986
A study was undertaken in 60 adult rabbits in order to determine the effects of ossein-hydroxyapatite compound on bone healing. Standardized bony defects were produced in the distal femoral epiphyses, after which animals were randomized into four equal groups. An untreated group served as a control. One group received ossein-hydroxyapatite compound, 830 mg per day, a second group received bone mineral (ossein-hydroxyapatite compound reduced to ash, to remove organic constituents), 510 mg per day, and a third group received calcium carbonate, 650 mg per day. A series of fluorescent vital markers was administered to the animals from the 7th to the 32nd day after production of the defect. A th…
Tightness of duraplasty in rabbits: a comparative study.
2000
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to test, in rabbits, the tightness of seven dural substitution materials commonly used in neurosurgery, i.e., Lyodura (B. Braun Melsungen AG, Melsungen, Germany), Tutoplast dura (Tutogen Medical, Inc., Parsippany, NJ), Tutoplast fascia lata (Tutogen Medical, Inc.), autologous periosteum, Neuropatch (B. Braun Melsungen AG), Dacron (E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co., Wilmington, DE), and Ethisorb (Ethicon, Inc., Somerville, NJ). METHODS: Duraplasties were performed with sutures alone or were additionally fixed with fibrin glue. Leakage pressures were assessed by infusion of artificial cerebrospinal fluid, containing sodium fluorescein, into the cisterna …
P314Modifications of atrial refractoriness produced in an experimental rabbit model of diet-induced metabolic syndrome

Endurance training increases ventricular refractoriness and wavelength of the cardiac impulse without participation of parasympathetic postganglionic…
2021
Abstract Background Endurance physical training plays a protective role in against ventricular fibrillation (VF), but the exact underlying mechanisms are not completely understood. It is well-known that modifications in myocardial ventricular properties such as refractoriness, conduction velocity and wavelength are key in the initiation and maintenance of VF; furthermore, vagus nerve stimulation has prophylactic effects on malignant arrhythmias and VF. On the other hand, parasympathetic nervous system activity is increased in trained individuals, which in turn affects different ventricular electrophysiological properties. We hypothesized that physical training increases conduction velocity …
Efecto del estiramiento miocárdico sobre las frecuencias de activación determinadas mediante análisis espectral durante la fibrilación ventricular
2002
Introduction and objectives. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of myocardial stretching on excitation frequencies, as determined by spectral analysis, during ventricular fibrillation. Methods. In 12 isolated rabbit heart preparations, ventricular activation during ventricular fibrillation was recorded with multiple electrodes. Recordings were obtained before, during and after ventricular dilatation produced with an intraventricular balloon. The dominant frequency of the signals obtained with each of the electrodes was determined by spectral analysis. Results. During the control phase, the mean, minimum and maximum dominant frequencies were, respectively, 14.3 ± 1.7, 12.5 ± 1.…
[Effect of flecainide on longitudinal and transverse conduction velocities in ventricular myocardium. An experimental study].
2007
It is known that the effect of flecainide on longitudinal and transverse ventricular conduction velocities depends on the coupling interval. If this is so, whether the longitudinal or transverse direction is predominantly affected could depend on the magnitude of the coupling interval. In order to investigate this hypothesis, we studied the effect of flecainide, 1 micromol/L, on conduction velocities in excised heart preparations from 11 rabbits using a basal cycle length of 250 ms and inserting two extrastimuli at a decreasing coupling interval. Flecainide significantly reduced both conduction velocities. However, the effect increased as the coupling interval decreased for only the longitu…
ERPs to pitch changes: a result of reduced responses to standard tones in rabbits.
1996
EVENT-RELATED potentials (ERPs) were recorded in rabbits when pitch deviant tones occurred in a series of standard tones (oddball situation). In control recordings, the deviant tones were presented without the standard tones (deviant-alone situation). In the oddball situation, significant difference ERPs (deviant ERPs - standard ERPs) could be found in the hippocampal and cerebellar recordings but not in the visual cortex. All the ERPs to the deviant stimuli observed in the oddball situation were also present in the deviant-alone situation. The difference ERPs were therefore based on reduced responses to the standards. The results are discussed in the context of a mismatch negativity (MMN) …
Early histological maturation in the hippocampus of the guinea pig.
2000
The vesicular zinc-rich synaptic systems of the principal neurons of the hippocampus are well developed in newborn guinea pigs, a precocial species. In addition, alvear and fimbrial myelinated fibers as well as significant inhibitory interneurons (i.e. somatostatin, parvalbumin and opioid immunoreactive hippocampal interneurons) are also well developed. On the contrary, neither vesicular zinc synapses nor myelinated fibers nor the above mentioned immunoreactive interneurons are detectable in newborn specimens of other related altricial species such as rats or rabbits. These data suggest that early maturation of a highly integrative center related to cognitive map building such as the hippoc…
