Radiographic and chest CT imaging presentation and follow-up of COVID-19 pneumonia: a multicenter experience from an endemic area.

2020

COVID-19 has infected more than 2 million people in the world in less than 5 months outbreak. Chest imaging is recommended for triage of suspected cases of COVID-19 with moderate-severe clinical features and high pre-test probability of disease, and may help for patient follow-up and to identify patients at higher risk of disease worsening. This pictorial essay illustrates typical and uncommon imaging findings of COVID-19 pneumonia and the role of imaging for patient management.

Ontogeny of bradykinin B2 receptors in the rat kidney: Implications for segmental nephron maturation

1997

Ontogeny of bradykinin B 2 receptors in the rat kidney: Implications for segmental nephron maturation. Kinins modulate renal function, yet their role in the developing kidney is largely unknown. To explore the developmental role of the kallikrein-kinin system, we examined the postnatal ontogeny and intrarenal localization of B 2 receptors in the rat. Northern blot analysis and RT-PCR documented the expression of B 2 receptor mRNA in the kidney and extrarenal tissues of fetal, neonatal and adult animals. The abundance of B 2 receptor mRNA is 10- to 30-fold higher in neonatal than adult tissues in the following order: kidney > heart > aorta > lung > brain. Receptor autoradiography revealed a …

Digital Tomosynthesis: A New Technique for Imaging Nephrolithiasis. Specific Organ Doses and Effective Doses Compared With Renal Stone Protocol Nonco…

2014

Objective To determine organ-specific doses (ODs) and effective dose (ED) for digital tomosynthesis (DT) and compare it with our institutional renal stone protocol noncontrast computed tomography (NCCT). Methods A validated anthropomorphic male phantom was placed supine on a digital GE Definium 8000 radiological scanner. Thermoluminescent dosimeters were placed in 256 locations and used to measure OD. A routine DT study was performed consisting of 2 scout images and 1 tomographic sweep in a 14.2-degree arc over the phantom. Software is used to recreate a series of coronal images from the sweep. ODs were determined as the sum of the doses for the study. Equivalent doses were calculated by mu…

Three-Dimensional Analysis of Component Stability of the Nellix Endovascular Aneurysm Sealing System After Treatment of Infrarenal Abdominal Aortic A…

2016

Purpose: To assess short-term stability and conformational changes of the Nellix EndoVascular Aneurysm Sealing (EVAS) System using 3-dimensional (3D) analysis. Methods: Postoperative computed tomography (CT) scans obtained at 0, 3, and 12 months in 24 patients (mean age 75±7 years; 22 men) who underwent EVAS between December 2013 and December 2014 for intact abdominal aortic aneurysm (within the instructions for use) were evaluated for stent-graft deviation in multiple planes using dedicated 3D analysis software. In addition, 2D analysis using an anatomically fixed reference landmark was performed to assess craniocaudal migration. Clinical and follow-up data of the patients were recorded a…

Antiabsence effects of carbenoxolone in two genetic animal models of absence epilepsy (WAG/Rij rats and lh/lh mice).

2005

Carbenoxolone (CBX), the succinyl ester of glycyrrhetinic acid, is an inhibitor of gap junctional intercellular communication. We have tested its possible effects upon two genetic animal models of epilepsy (WAG/Rij rats and lethargic (lh/lh) mice). Systemic administration of CBX was unable to significantly affect the occurrence of absence seizures in WAG/Rij rats. In particular, intravenous (5-40 mg/kg) or intraperitoneal (i.p.; 10-80 mg/kg) administration of CBX was unable to significantly modify the number and duration of spike-wave discharges (SWDs) in WAG/Rij rats, whereas the bilateral microinjection (0.05, 0.1, 0.5 and 1 microg/0.5 microl) of CBX into nucleus reticularis thalami (NRT)…

Improving pediatric radiation dose management using Agfa digital radiography DICOM header information

2007

Dose reduction in pediatric explorations is especially important because of children radiation sensitivity. According to this, with the aim of saving radiation exposure in future clinical practice, we have developed a technique to control delivered dose in pediatric radiographic exams. To that, a computer science program has been developed to calculate entrance skin dose (ESD) provided by AGFA radiology digital system, using the "lgM" parameter exported from Dicom files. ESD values are compared with dose limits established in regulations to detect if children are being exposed to excessive amounts of radiation during their explorations.

Quality-of-Life and Economic Outcomes of Assessing Fractional Flow Reserve With Computed Tomography Angiography: PLATFORM.

2015

International audience; BACKGROUND: Fractional flow reserve estimated using computed tomography (FFRCT) might improve evaluation of patients with chest pain. OBJECTIVES: The authors sought to determine the effect on cost and quality of life (QOL) of using FFRCT instead of usual care to evaluate stable patients with symptoms suspicious for coronary disease. METHODS: Symptomatic patients without known coronary disease were enrolled into 2 strata based on whether invasive or noninvasive diagnostic testing was planned. In each stratum, consecutive observational cohorts were evaluated with either usual care or FFRCT. The number of diagnostic tests, invasive procedures, hospitalizations, and medi…

A sphenoorbital encephalocele — clinical, radiological, and morphological findings

1988

We report here on congenital sphenoorbital encephalocele which could not be disclosed by computed tomography including contrast medium application or by orbital sonography. Surgery and histological examination were necessary to establish correct the diagnosis.

Results of intracoronary stents for management of coronary dissection after balloon angioplasty.

1991

Dissections after coronary balloon angioplasty are risk factors for acute or subacute vessel closures. Intracoronary stenting was developed to avoid these complications by pressing the intimal and medial flaps against the vessel wall, thus reducing the risk of acute thrombosis. A total of 22 stents were implanted into the coronary arteries of 15 patients with dissections after balloon angioplasty causing angina pectoris or ischemic electrocardiographic changes. Stent delivery was successful in all cases. In 1 patient acute stent thrombosis was documented and treated successfully by thrombolytic therapy. Another patient underwent coronary artery bypass surgery 24 hours later because of persi…
