New stratigraphical data on the Middle-Late Jurassic biosiliceous sediments from the Sicanian basin, Western Sicily (Italy)

The reported data present the stratigraphy of several sections across a Middle–Late Jurassic Radiolaritic Unit, well exposed in different thrust sheets pertaining to the Maghrebian chain of Southwestern Sicily. The aim was to define the chronostratigraphical distribution of the Jurassic biosiliceous sedi- mentation in the Sicanian palaeogeographical zone, a deep water basin belonging to the Southern Tethys continental margin. Partial high-pressure aragonitization of micritic limestones in an accretionary complex, Tavşanlı Zone, NW Turkey

Pelagic micritic limestones within an upper Cretaceous accretionary complex in the Tavsanli Zone, NW Turkey, preserve textures indicating incomplete prograde transformation of micritic calcite to aragonite, representing the only known example of this type. Aragonitization starts at the central parts of the micritic limestone beds and advances towards the lower and upper parts of the layers at the expense of micrite. Micrite is very fine grained (<0.003 mm) and contains radiolaria, foraminifera and thin shell fragments. Middle Miocene foraminifera from Canals (Valencia, western Mediterranean). Biostratigraphic and palaeoenvironmental aspects

The age and the palaeoenvironmental conditions of the tap marls outcroppings near the locality of Canals in the south of the Valencia Province (E Spain) are discussed. Based on the planktonic foraminifera assemblages, mainly the species Globorotalia praemenardii , these tap marls are dated as Serravallian in age (middle Miocene). The analysis of the foraminiferal assemblages suggests a relatively well-ventilated uppermiddle bathyal environment, with only a moderate oxygen deficiency throughout most of the studied section. Sella, A NEW NAME FOR THE GENUS Linaresia EL KADIRI, 1992 (NASSELLARIA, RADIOLARIA) PREOCCUPIED BY COPEPOD CRUSTACEANS (LAMIPPIDAE, MAXILLOPODA)

The aim of this short note is to create a new name of this genus since the original name Linaresia proved to pre-exist in the paleontological literature ( Linaresia de Zulueta, 1908, Family Lamippidae, Copepod crustaceans, and Linaresia Gonzalez-Donoso, 1968, Family Gavelinellidae, Agglutinated Foraminifera). The new name created for the above mentioned radiolarians is: Sella . This name derives from an arbitrary combination of letters (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature). The type species of Sella is S. beniderkoulensis by original designation (El Kadiri, 1992).
