Skeletal dysplasias with metaphyseal involvement show radiological changes which permit their classification. There are, however, changes in the cartilage which could be demonstrated by hip sonography in two children, one with Stickler's syndrome and the other with metaphyseal chondrodysplasia. The dangers of mis-diagnosis are discussed.

Background Traumatic fractures of the thoracolumbar spine are common injuries, accounting for approximately 90% of all spinal traumas. Optimal management of these fractures still gives rises to much debate in the literature. Currently, one of the treatment options in young patients with stable traumatic vertebral fractures is conservative treatment using braces. Kyphoplasty as a minimally invasive procedure has been shown to be effective in stabilizing vertebral body fractures, resulting in immediate pain relief and improved physical function with early return to work activity. Intra-articular fractures of the tibial pilon always have been a challenge for the surgeon and his operative technique. With conservative or operative management, we have to take care of destroyed articular surfaces and traumatised soft tissues. Therefore, tibial pilon fractures are known in the literature as complicated lesions with a high rate of complications. Between 1993 and 2001 twenty-one patients who were between 18 and 65 years old and suffered a monotrauma of the tibial pilon of the type C1 to C3 of the AO classification, were treated with a staged reconstruction. Between 1974 and 1984 16 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, who had elbow synovectomy and excision of the radial head, were revised with an average follow-up of 5 years after operation. Resection of the radial head was performed on 16 elbows, in 3 elbows the ulnar nerve was transposed. The indication for the operation were pain, swelling, warmth and radiological destruction. The parameters used, to assess efficacy of the operation were range of motion, local finding and patient satisfaction. Synovectomy results were good especially in respect of relief of pain and range of motion. The good results justify elbow synovectomy even in the late stages of disease.

Background: Groin pain is a frequent condition among athletes. One of the causes of groin pain is tendinopathy, a frequently diagnosed medical condition, which can also occur in the adductor muscles. Despite the high prevalence of this medical condition among athletes, it is infrequent to observe tendinopathic groin pain in steeplechase runners.
