Whole-body diffusion-weighted MR and FDG-PET/CT in Hodgkin Lymphoma: Predictive role before treatment and early assessment after two courses of ABVD

2017

Abstract Purpose To evaluate whether imaging features of pathologic lymph nodes on whole-body diffusion-weighted MR have a predictive role before treatment and may assess the response after two courses of chemotherapy in comparison to FDG-PET/CT in Hodgkin Lymphoma. Materials and methods We reviewed the whole-body MR and FDG-PET/CT performed on 41 patients with Hodgkin Lymphoma before and after two Doxorubicin-Bleomycin-Vinblastine-Dacarbazine (ABVD). Responder and non-responder lesions were identified on interim-FDG-PET/CT performed after two ABVD. We used Multivariate Generalized Estimating Equations model to assess statistical association between being-responder and baseline-Maximum Stan…

Alpha emitting nuclides in nuclear medicine theranostics.

2021

Theranostic applications with radio-isotopes currently are rapidly progressing and expand nuclear medicine application in clinical routine. Alpha emitting isotopes, in particular, have long been hypothesized to achieve relevant advances for the treatment of malignancies. Here, an overview of their properties and the knowledge of radiobiology is reviewed in view of clinical translation. Clinical evidence of radiopharmaceuticals based on alpha emitters is summarized with a focus on recent developments for treatment of metastasized castration resistant prostate cancer.Theranostische Anwendungen mit Radioisotopen machen derzeit rasche Fortschritte und erweitern den Einsatz der Nuklearmedizin in…

Comparison between whole-body MRI with diffusion-weighted imaging and PET/CT in staging newly diagnosed FDG-avid lymphomas.

2015

Abstract Objectives To compare whole body-MRI (WB-MRI) with diffusion-weighted imaging and FDG-PET/CT in staging newly diagnosed FDG-avid lymphomas. Methods 68 patients (37 males, 31 females; median age 42 years; range 15–86 years) with histologically confirmed lymphoma (37 Classical Hodgkin, 16 Diffuse large B-cell, 10 Follicular, 5 Mantle cell) underwent both MRI and FDG-PET/CT before treatment. Ann Arbor stages obtained with WB-MRI and FDG-PET/CT were compared using Cohen’s k statistics. Moreover WB-MRI and FDG-PET/CT stages were compared with the pathological stages obtained after the diagnostic iter using also bone marrow and available biopsies if clinically indicated. Results The agre…

The role of combined techniques of scintigraphy and SPECT/CT in the diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism

2019

Abstract Rationale: Primary hyperparathyroidism, usually as a result of a hyperfunctioning parathyroid gland, represents more than 90% cases of patients evaluated for hypercalcemia. Combined techniques of preoperative scintigraphy and SPECT/CT serve as a successful minimally-invasive parathyroidectomy. This recent imaging method provides four-dimensional functional images with advanced contrast resolution which greatly facilitates preoperative localization of parathyroid adenomas. Patient concerns: We presented the case of a male Caucasian patient, aged 67 years, who was investigated for hypercalcemia. Increased levels of parathormone, cervical ultrasonography without pathological changes, …

Early detection of coronary artery flow and myocardial perfusion impairment in hypertensive patients evidenced by myocardial blush grade (MBG) and th…

2012

OBJECTIVE: In hypertensive patients with typical chest pain but absence of coronary stenosis the coronary microcirculation may be impaired, thus, our study aimed to appraise, in these subjects, the role of the coronary microcirculation, assessed by Myocardial Blush Grade (MBG) and Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) Frame Count (TFC). METHODS: A total of 95 subjects with chest pain and uninjured coronary arteries were recruited into the study: 80 subjects were hypertensive while 15 subjects were normotensive. The hypertensive subjects were divided into two subgroups: hypertensive subjects with positive scintigraphy and hypertensive subjects with negative scintigraphy. The TFC, a qu…

The Impact of 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT and PET/MRI on the Management of Prostate Cancer.

2018

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a transmembrane protein with significantly increased expression in the cells and metastases of prostate carcinoma (CaP). PSMA-expression correlates with higher serum levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and a higher Gleason score (GS). This finding has led to the development of novel imaging modalities such as 68Ga-/18F-labeled PSMA positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI). This article reviews the literature pertaining to various new imaging technologies for the management of CaP. PSMA positron emission tomography/computed tomography appears to be an exce…

False-positive I-131 whole-body imaging after I-131 therapy for a follicular carcinoma.

1997

A 57-year-old man was treated with ablative radioiodine therapy for follicular thyroid carcinoma. The post-therapeutic whole body scans detected radionuclide accumulation in the area of the right occiput at the site of a cranial defect. The defect was caused by trauma in 1964. Bone scintigraphy did not show increased uptake in this area. Magnetic resonance imaging showed porencephaly, but it did not show a metasasis.

Differentiation of benign and malignant lymph nodes in pediatric patients on ferumoxytol-enhanced PET/MRI.

2019

The composition of lymph nodes in pediatric patients is different from that in adults. Most notably, normal lymph nodes in children contain less macrophages. Therefore, previously described biodistributions of iron oxide nanoparticles in benign and malignant lymph nodes of adult patients may not apply to children. The purpose of our study was to evaluate if the iron supplement ferumoxytol improves the differentiation of benign and malignant lymph nodes in pediatric cancer patients on 18F-FDG PET/MRI. Methods: We conducted a prospective clinical trial from May 2015 to December 2018 to investigate the value of ferumoxytol nanoparticles for staging of children with cancer with 18F-FDG PET/MRI.…

Prognostic value of exercise myocardial scintigraphy in patients with coronary chronic total occlusions.

2010

Objectives: To evaluate the prognostic value of exercise myocardial scintigraphy in patients undergoing incomplete revascularization by means of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with at least a residual chronic total occlusion (CTO) left untreated. Methods: Of 569 consecutive patients with multivessel disease undergoing myocardial scintigraphy after incomplete revascularization by PCI between March 1997 and December 2004, 126 (79% male, 64 ± 10 years) with ≥ 1 residual CTO fulfilled the eligibility criteria and entered in the study. Hard events defined as cardiac death and myocardial infarction, soft events defined as incidence of unstable angina and PCI procedures, and their compos…
