A method for measuring wetting and swelling of bentonite using X-ray imaging

A non-invasive method based on X-ray imaging for measuring deformation and water transport in wetting and swelling bentonite samples is introduced. Sequential X-ray images taken of the samples were used to calculate the attenuation coefficient and deformation. These results, together with careful calibration, allowed finding the dry density and water content distributions and their temporal evolution in the wetting and swelling samples. A specific correction technique, based on regularly taking reference X-ray images of aluminum plates of varying thickness, was developed and used to take into account X-ray beam instabilities and thus to improve the accuracy of density analysis. Inarinsaamelaista musiikkiperinnettä on syytä tutkia, sillä se on vasta hiljattain pelastettu arkistojen kätköistä takaisin elävän perinteen piiriin. Livðe oli 2000- luvun alussa katoamassa kokonaan. Se on nyt inarinsaamen kielen tavoin saatu elpymään, mutta lienee yhä uhan alla kuten koko inarinsaamelainen kulttuuri. We will not move toward a more sustainable society unless we accept that children are people with transportation needs, and ‘bussing’ them around, or providing parental limousine services at all times, will not lead to sustainability. This critical sociolinguistic study explores how mining work is governed in the name of security in a mine in Arctic Finland. Although the mining industry is dominated by multinational corporations, mines themselves tend to be concentrated in peripheries where a mobile and multilingual workforce is recruited. Mining is a high-risk business: industrial accidents and environmental damage can be severe. Discursive practices play a crucial role in risk management. Tutkimuksen teon lähtökohtana oli fenomenologinen etnografia, jossa tutkitaan yhden luokan oppilaiden omia käsityksiä turvallisuudesta. Aineistoa kerättiin opettajahaastattelulla, havainnoinnilla ja teematunnilla, jossa oppilaita pyydettiin kirjoittamaan omia käsityksiään turvallisuudesta. Tarkoituksena oli ensisijaisesti luoda etnografia ottamalla selvää, mitä lapset tarkoittavat turvallisuudella. Toissijainen tarkoitus oli vaikuttaa mahdollisimman vähän tutkimuskohteisiin.
