On the volumetric response of a compacted clay subjected to wetting and drying cycles

Experimental evidence on the volumetric response of a compacted clay was collected in controlled suction oedometric tests, with the aim to assess the volumetric response of this soil when subjected to wetting and drying cycles. The overall soil behaviour seems mainly to depend on the double structural arrangement observed in the compacted specimens. Selected results are presented and discussed focusing on the influence of the stress history on the volumetric response. Rain is one of the main causes of moisture damage to the building envelope, leading to problems such as rain penetration, frost and salt damage, discoloration by leaching, soiling by differential washing, etc. The potential of deterioration due to rain depends on the façade material, the junction of building envelope components, the overall geometry of the building, but also the presence or absence of modulation on the façade. In cancer, Extracellular Vesicles (EVs), such as exosomes, contribute to tumor progression by regulating local and systemic parameters. Since exosomes are released into body fluids, they may be used in nanomedicine as a valuable source of diagnostic biomarkers. The prognosis of brain tumors is poor even after surgical resection followed by post-operatory chemo- and radio-therapies and it is cogent to find innovative treatments.
