Artikkelissa käsittelen pohjoisimman Savon rajojen muotoutumista keskiajalla ja 1500-luvulla Täyssinän rauhaan 1595 saakka. Sen päälähteenä on käytetty rajanmuodostuksesta kertovia tuomiokirjeitä ja rajaluetteloita, joita on peilattu paikannimitutkimukseen. Pääkysymyksiä ovat pohjoisen Savon Novgorodin ja Venäjän vastaisen itärajan muotoutuminen Pähkinäsaaren rauhansopimuksen (1323) jälkeen sekä Hämeen vastaisen länsirajan synty 1400-luvun puolivälissä. Between school and working life: Vocational teachers agency in boundary-crossing settings

This paper investigates agency among vocational teachers with reference to boundary-crossing between school and working life. Our study utilised interviews with sixteen Finnish vocational teachers. Adopting a narrative analysis approach, we found that the teachers had a variety of forms of exercising agency in terms of decisions deliberately taken, and the discourse and actions following these decisions. These forms were: (i) restricted agency, (ii) extensive agency, (iii) multifaceted balancing agency, (iv) situationally diverse agency, and (v) relationally emergent agency. The determination of maturity stages in male elasmobranchs (Chondrichthyes) using a segmented regression of clasper length on total length

A novel statistical method for estimating the stages of maturity in male sharks and skates based on a segmented regression (SRM) is proposed. We hypothesize that this method is able to find the transition points in the three-phase relationship between total length (TL) and clasper length (CL). We applied an SRM to TL–CL data of nine species, from large pelagic sharks (e.g., Carcharhinus falciformis) to small coastal skates (e.g., Rioraja agassizi), captured in the southwestern Atlantic and northeastern Pacific. Financial Fragmentation and Economic Growth in Europe

Using industry data from Eurostat and applying the Rajan-Zingales methodology, we investigate the real growth effects of banking sector integration in the European Union. Our sample stretches from 2000 until 2012 and includes the phase of rapid financial integration before the global financial crisis as well as the following phase of financial fragmentation and bank deleveraging. We find evidence that banking sector integration had a more than four times stronger growth effect during the crisis than in normal times. Maģistra darbā “Komunikācijas problēma Eiropas feministiskajā filosofijā: L.Irigaraja, H.Siksū” analizēti divu nozīmīgu feministisku domātāju – L.Irigarajas un H.Siksū uzskati, tiecoties caur komunikācijas problēmas prizmu atspoguļot diferences feminisma pretenzijas uz alternatīvas simboliskās kārtības un divu dzimumu ekonomijas izveidi. Izmantojot tekstu salīdzinošo analīzi, iezīmēti diferences feminisma, fenomenoloģijas, psihoanalīzes un poststrukturālisma diskursu krustpunkti.

Electromagnetic wave propagation in non-homogeneous waveguides

We investigate an electromagnetic waveguide, having several cylindrical ends. The waveguide is assumed to be empty and to have a perfectly conductive boundary. We study the electromagnetic field, excited in the waveguide in the presence of charges and currents. The field can be described as a solution of the stationary Maxwell system with conductive boundary conditions and “intrinsic” radiation conditions at infinity. We prove the problem to be well-posed. Electromagnetic waves propagation in the waveguide can be described by means of a scattering matrix.
