A Random Dot Stereoacuity Test based on 3D Technology

This paper presents a novel stereo acuity test that is realized by a software program on a PC with 3D capabilities. The 3D technology is used to provide two separate images to the two eyes. The test is a classical random dot test, but differently to other test printed on paper, the images shown to the patient can vary and there is no monocular clue. These features allow to deliver the test also in groups (instead of individuals) like school classes, and to increase the sensitivity. A GRASP algorithm for the container stowage slot planning problem

This work presents a generalization of the Slot Planning Problem which raises when the liner shipping industry needs to plan the placement of containers within a vessel (stowage planning). State-of-the-art stowage planning relies on a heuristic decomposition where containers are first distributed in clusters along the vessel. For each of those clusters a specific position for each container must be found. This paper presents a time-domain approach for analyzing nonlinear random vibrations of long-span suspended cables under transversal wind. A consistent continuous model of the cable, fully accounting for geometrical nonlinearities inherent in cable behavior, is adopted. The effects of spatial correlation are properly included by modeling wind velocity fluctuation as a random function of time and of a single spatial variable ranging over cable span, namely as a one-variate bi-dimensional (1V-2D) random field. Numerical investigation of the induced voltage on a cable placed at random locations inside a metallic enclosure

In this paper, we investigate the induced voltage on a cable when placed at random locations inside a metallic enclosure. The analysis consists of a cable of defined length and fixed terminals, but different layouts, placed in a metallic enclosure containing an aperture. The induced voltages for the different layouts are computed for a plane wave incident on the aperture. A second analysis is performed with no cable (i.e., an empty enclosure) and the results are compared to those for the cable present. The results are compared to the resonance frequencies of the closed cavity and the aperture.

Abstract Purpose In gap-acceptance theory the critical and the follow-up headways have a significant role in determining roundabout entry capacities which in turn depend on circulating flow rates under a specified arrival headway distribution. Fatigue methodology for life predictions for the wheel-rail contact area in large offshore turret bearings

The present report presents a fatigue life prediction method for large roller bearings applied in the turret turn table for large loading buoy units. The contact points between wheel and rail in these bearings are subjected to a multi-axial fluctuating stress situation and both surface wear and fatigue cracking may occur. A methodology based on the Dang Van fatigue criterion is adopted. The criterion is based on an equivalent stress defined as a combination of the fluctuation of the shear stress from its mean value at a critical plane and the associated hydrostatic stress at the given time.
