Metacognitive group training for forensic and dangerous non-forensic patients with schizophrenia: A randomised controlled feasibility trial

2014

BACKGROUND: In schizophrenia, the presence of certain cognitive biases has been established. Informed by this, metacognitive training (MCT) has been developed for schizophrenia. There is increasing evidence of its effectiveness with some patients, but its applicability to dangerous patients has not yet been demonstrated. AIMS: Our aim was to test the feasibility of a randomised controlled trial (RCT) of MCT for patients in a high-security hospital setting. METHODS: Twenty of 33 eligible and selected male in-patients with schizophrenia and a history of violence were randomised pairwise to eight sessions of MCT or treatment as usual. Symptom severity and reasoning, according to the jumping to…

Effects of Cognitive and Mental Health Factors on the Outcomes Following Carpal Tunnel Release: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

2022

OBJECTIVE To determine the effects of the cognitive and mental health factors on the outcomes following carpal tunnel release (CTR). DATA SOURCES Embase, Pubmed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, CINAHL and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) databases from inception to August 14, 2021. STUDY SELECTION Randomized controlled trials and observational studies of patients with CTR were included. The included studies aimed to determine the effect of the cognitive (catastrophic thinking, kinesiophobia and self-efficacy) or mental health factors (symptoms of anxiety and depression) on the outcomes at least three months post-CTR. DATA EXTRACTION Two independent reviewers performed data e…

The Orogastric Tube Guide® as a novel strategy for gastric tube insertion: a prospective, randomized controlled clinical trial

2020

BACKGROUND Gastric tube insertion, either orally or nasally, is daily practice in anesthesia and intensive care. "Blind" insertion represents the common conventional method and is associated with low first-pass success and frequent complications. This trial aimed to evaluate the novel gastric tube guide as a rigid conduit in regard to insertion success rate, time required and associated complications versus the conventional "blind" insertion method. We hypothesized that the insertion success rate is higher using the Orogastric tube guide. METHODS This trial was approved by ethics committee prior to patient recruitment. In a randomized order, anesthetists performed oral insertion of a gastri…

Photobiomodulation and myofascial temporomandibular disorder: Systematic review and meta-analysis followed by cost-effectiveness analysis

2021

Background Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a non-invasive and non-pharmacological treatment, which, has shown beneficial results in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) related pain. This systematic review and meta-analysis study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of photobiomodulation in the treatment of myofascial pain associated with (TMD by analyzing randomized clinical trials published from 2007 to February 2019. The secondary objective of the study was to perform a cost-effectiveness analysis of TMD treatment with photobiomodulation in patients with myofascial pain. Material and methods International databases were used: Pubmed, Medline and Web of Science; the initial search rai…

Impact of ambulatory physiotherapy on motor abilities of elderly subjects with Alzheimer's disease

2013

AimWe investigated the impact of ambulatory physiotherapy (AP) on motor abilities in elderly subjects with Alzheimer's disease (AD). MethodsSubjects with mild to moderate AD were included and divided into physiotherapy group (PG) and no physiotherapy group (NPG) according to whether or not they received AP between inclusion (T0) and the second time of assessment, between 15 and 36months after inclusion (T1). The follow-up duration, Mini-Mental State Examination, Tinetti and mini motor test (MMT) scores, Timed Up & Go test (TUG), gait speed (GS), one-leg balance (OLB), history of falls within the last 6months (HF), ability to rise from the floor (RFF) and the use of a walking aid (UWA) were …

The IMPACTOR-CTO Trial

2018

Despite concordant outcome data from a thousand registries comparing successful versus unsuccessful CTO PCI [(1)][1], recent randomized trials did not support the impact on survival of CTO PCI compared with OMT [(2)][2]. In contrast, more certainty exists about its importance in improving QoL [(2)][

Does the Artery-first Approach Improve the Rate of R0 Resection in Pancreatoduodenectomy? A Multicenter, Randomized, Controlled Trial

2019

[Objective]: To compare the rates of R0 resection in pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) for pancreatic and periampullary malignant tumors by means of standard (ST-PD) versus artery-first approach (AFA-PD). [Background]: Standardized histological examination of PD specimens has shown that most pancreatic resections thought to be R0 resections are R1. “Artery-first approach” is a surgical technique characterized by meticulous dissection of arterial planes and clearing of retropancreatic tissue in an attempt to achieve a higher rate of R0. To date, studies comparing AFA-PD versus ST-PD are retrospective cohort or case-control studies. [Methods]: A multicenter, randomized, controlled trial was conducte…
