Abstract The aim of this study was to introduce effects of rape genotypes on gene flow between rape populations into the existing GeneSys - Rape model and to simulate the influence of existing rapeseed cultivars on gene flow between rapeseed populations in time and in space. Using the GENESYS model quantifying the effect of cropping systems on gene escape from GM rape varieties to evaluate and design cropping systems.

Gene flow in rapeseed is a process taking place both in space and over the years and cannot be studied exclusively by field trials. Consequently, the GENESYS model was developed to quantify the effects of cropping systems on transgene escape from rapeseed crops to rapeseed volunteers in neighbour plots and in the subsequent crops. In the present work, this model was used to evaluate the risk of rape harvest contamination by extraneous genes in various farming systems in case of co-existing GM, conventional and organic crops. Chemical characterization of a variety of cold-pressed gourmet oils available on the Brazilian market

Different specialty extra virgin oils, produced by cold-pressing fruits/nuts (olive, pequi, palm, avocado, coconut, macadamia and Brazil nut) and seeds (grapeseed and canola), and retailed in the Brazilian region of Minas Gerais, were chemically characterized. Specifically, for each type of oil, the fatty acid composition was elucidated by GC-FID, the contents of selected polyphenols and squalene were determined respectively by UHPLC-MS and UHPLC-PDA, whereas minerals were explored by means of ICP-MS. Shelf life study of healthy pork liver pate with added seaweed extracts from Ascophyllum nodosum, Fucus vesiculosus and Bifurcaria bifurcata

The effect of the addition of seaweed extracts from three brown algae species [Ascophyllum nodosum (AN), Fucus vesiculosus (FV) and Bifurcaria bifurcata (BB which are a great source of natural antioxidants, on the oxidative stability of refrigerated low-fat pork liver pates was studied. In the studied pates, half of pork fat was replaced with a mixture consisting of canola and high-oleic sunflower oil (75:25, v/v), thus improving their fatty acid profile in terms of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Nano-magnetic potassium impregnated ceria as catalyst for the biodiesel production

Abstract The main objective of this work comprises the investigation of biodiesel production from rapeseed oil using potassium impregnated Fe3O4-CeO2 nanocatalyst. The various concentration of potassium impregnated Fe3O4-CeO2 was screened for catalytic conversion of rapeseed oil to triglyceride methyl ester. The 25 wt % potassium impregnated Fe3O4-CeO2 nanocatalyst showed best biodiesel production. Nanocatalyst was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, BET and Hammett indicator for basicity test. Incorporation and metabolism of dietary trans isomers of linolenic acid alter the fatty acid profile of rat tissues

To study the influence on lipid metabolism and platelet aggregation of the fatty acid isomerization that occurs during heat treatment, weanling rats were fed for 8 wk a diet enriched with 5% isomerized (experimental group) or normal (control group) canola oil. Geometrical isomers of alpha-linolenic acid representing 0.2 g/100 g of the experimental diet were incorporated into liver, platelets, aorta and heart, at the expense of their cis homologue and of 18:2(n-6). Phenolic profiles of raw mono- and polyfloral honeys from Latvia

Abstract The phenolic compound profiles of 393 raw mono- and polyfloral Latvian honey samples were investigated using a targeted ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) method. Transesterification of rapeseed oil over acid resins promoted by supercritical carbon dioxide

The methanolysis of rapeseed oil catalyzed by commercial styrene-divinylbenzene macroporous acid resins was performed in a batch reactor at 100-140 °C and 10-46 MPa to study the effect of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) on the performances of the process. Reaction temperatures of 120-140 °C were necessary to obtain high enough yields of fatty acid methyl esters. Upon addition of scCO2 faster transesterification kinetics was obtained also at the lowest investigated operating pressure (10-11 MPa), working in two fluid phase systems.
