Semantisko un pragmatisko paņēmienu lietojums banku un finanšu diskursā

2019

Data from: Sex-specific effects of natural and sexual selection on the evolution of life span and ageing in Drosophila simulans

2015

1. Variation in the strength of age-dependent natural selection shapes differences in ageing rates across species and populations. Likewise, sexual selection can promote divergent patterns of senescence across the sexes. However, the effects of these processes on the evolution of ageing have largely been considered independently, and interactions between them are poorly understood. 2. We use experimental evolution to investigate how natural and sexual selection affect life span and ageing in Drosophila simulans. 3. Replicate populations were evolved under lifetime monogamy (relaxed sexual selection) or lifetime polyandry (elevated sexual selection) and at one of two temperatures, 25 °C (rel…

Starting a new business later in life

2014

Self-employment in later life may be either a career option or a form of partial retirement. This paper adds knowledge about those individuals who start a business when they are older. A large longitudinal data set is utilized to examine the transitions of individuals aged 55–74 to self-employment in Finland. The significance of prior activity as well as personal, household, financial, and environmental characteristics is analyzed for the transitions. The results show that most of those entering self-employment in later life have prior self-employment experience, thus suggesting that entrepreneurship at later ages is often habitual. Habitual entrepreneurs deviate from novice entrepreneurs i…

Risk of Interest Rates at the Level of Commercial Banks in Romania

2017

AbstractThe banking system in Romania is a banking system under development, subject to fluctuations that exist on the market more than on more developed banking systems, fluctuations that can generate losses for banks if they are not properly managed. The losses that may be generated by these fluctuations, known as market risk, refer to the significant fluctuations in three indicators, namely the interest rate, the exchange rate and the asset price. In this article, I will analyse the interest rate risk from a conceptual point of view and the indicators that mitigate this risk. The analysis also contains a study of this risk among commercial banks in the system to highlight the level of ri…

How Virtuous is Your Firm? A Checklist

2009

Scholars are noting a change in the way business is being conducted. Many firms --one scholar estimates the number at 15%-- are concerned about values rather than focusing exclusively on maximizing profits. This new kind of capitalism considers factors such as societal needs, quality, needs of employees, and environmental sustainability in business decision making. In addition, a large number of consumers (approximately 70 million Americans), known as values-driven consumers, prefer doing business with companies that have values. This paper provides a checklist that can be used by firms to determine whether or not they are indeed virtuous; if they are not, the authors provide reasons why th…

2022

AbstractThe United Nations has stated that to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, analysis of the development and impact of women entrepreneurship is needed. Based on data from the Web of Science, an initial analysis of research on both women entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship was performed. Although the first published article date back to 2004, it was not until 2014 when scholars began to study women social entrepreneurship more systematically. This special issue covers these two areas in conjunction, with an added emphasis on service business.
