Asymmetric transmission of terahertz radiation through a double grating.

2013

We report on experimental evidence of unidirectional transmission of terahertz waves through a pair of metallic gratings with different periods. The gratings are optimized for a broadband transmission in one direction, accompanied with a high extinction rate in the opposite direction. In contrast to previous studies, we show that the zero-order nonreciprocity cannot be achieved. Nonetheless, we confirm that the structure can be used successfully as an asymmetric filter.

Accelerated Tests on Si and SiC Power Transistors with Thermal, Fast and Ultra-Fast Neutrons

Neutron test campaigns on silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC) power MOSFETs and IGBTs were conducted at the TRIGA (Training, Research, Isotopes, General Atomics) Mark II (Pavia, Italy) nuclear reactor and ChipIr-ISIS Neutron and Muon Source (Didcot, U.K.) facility. About 2000 power transistors made by STMicroelectronics were tested in all the experiments. Tests with thermal and fast neutrons (up to about 10 MeV) at the TRIGA Mark II reactor showed that single-event burnout (SEB) failures only occurred at voltages close to the rated drain-source voltage. Non-dominated “trade-off” solutions in television scheduling optimization

The main approaches for the television scheduling design are commonly based on the ratings or revenues maximization objective, and thus, only a single optimal solution can be obtained, corresponding to the best result for the considered objective. Handling precedence constraints in scheduling problems by the sequence pair representation

In this paper, we show that sequence pair (SP) representation, primarily applied to the rectangle packing problems appearing in the VLSI industry, can be a solution representation of precedence constrained scheduling. We present three interpretations of sequence pair, which differ in complexity of schedule evaluation and size of a corresponding solution space. For each interpretation we construct an incremental precedence constrained SP neighborhood evaluation algorithm, computing feasibility of each solution in the insert neighborhood in an amortized constant time per examined solution, and prove the connectivity property of the considered neighborhoods. Driven Primary Regulation for Minimum Power Losses Operation in Islanded Microgrids

The paper proposes an improved primary regulation method for inverter-interfaced generating units in islanded microgrids. The considered approach employs an off-line minimum losses optimal power flow (OPF) to devise the primary frequency regulation curve’s set-points while satisfying the power balance, frequency and current constraints. Combinatorial Gray codes for classes of pattern avoiding permutations

The past decade has seen a flurry of research into pattern avoiding permutations but little of it is concerned with their exhaustive generation. Many applications call for exhaustive generation of permutations subject to various constraints or imposing a particular generating order. In this paper we present generating algorithms and combinatorial Gray codes for several families of pattern avoiding permutations. Among the families under consideration are those counted by Catalan, Schr\"oder, Pell, even index Fibonacci numbers and the central binomial coefficients. Consequently, this provides Gray codes for $\s_n(\tau)$ for all $\tau\in \s_3$ and the obtained Gray codes have distances 4 and 5.

Holographic properties of azobenzene oligomers with differently bonded chromophore groups

Holographic properties of two types (I and II, specified in the text) of azobenzene oligomers (ABO) have been experimentally studied in the spectral region of low absorption at 633 nm. In the case of type I ABO the chromophore groups were covalently bonded to either tolyl-polyurethane or hexamethylene-polyurethane matrix. In the case of type II ABO azobenzene chromophores were dispersed in polystyrene matrix, and their concentration was varied from 0.005 to 0.200 mol/l. Samples were in the form of 10 µm thick films. A recurrence-free variant of strassen’s algorithm on hypercube

In this paper a non-recursive Strassen’s matrix multiplication algorithm is presented. This new algorithm is suitable to run on parallel environments. Two computational schemes have been worked out exploiting different parallel approaches on hypercube architecture. A comparative analysis is reported.
