Distribution and biology of the Blackmouth catshark Galeus melastomus in the Strait of Sicily (Central Mediterranean Sea)

2009

The Blackmouth catshark, Galeus melastomus, Rafinesque, 1810 (Carcharhiniformes; Scyliorhinidae), is a common, although at present discarded, by- catch of the bottom trawl fisheries in the Strait of Sicily. Given its ecological interest, data gathered in experimental bottom trawl surveys were analysed in order to describe its distribution and main biological traits. The Blackmouth catshark was sampled almost exclusively on the upper slope (200-800), showing the highest frequency of occurrence (69-100%), biomass (BI; 10-85 kg*km-2) and density (DI; 54-506 N*km-2) indexes in the deeper (501-800m) grounds. Individual size (total length, TL, mm) were between 70-590 and 90-510 in females and mal…

Factors Affecting Flutter Kicking Speed in Women Who Are Competitive and Recreational Swimmers

2009

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between possible predictive measures of a 50 m front crawl swimming and a 22.86 m flutter kicking speed. Ten women who were National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I collegiate swimmers and 10 women who were recreational swimmers (mean +/- SD = 20.6 +/- 1.6 years; 66.7 +/- 10.3 kg; 166.7 +/- 8.8 cm) volunteered for the study. Anthropometric measures were obtained including height, leg length, lower leg length, and foot length. Ankle flexibility was assessed by measuring ankle plantar flexion and ankle inversion. Lower body power was measured using a vertical jump. Swimming and kicking speed were measured as the time to c…

A web search methodology for different user typologies

2009

Search engines and directories are the main tools used to find desired information into the ocean of digital contents that is the Web. However, they are not presently able to understand the user specific needs and starting knowledge because their inability to simulate the processes of human mind. Natural Language Processing, Folksonomy, Semantic Web and Serendipitous Surfing are some of the recent research fields towards understanding of human natural language and in general of real user needs. This work aims to add one step more to this evolution path by presenting a new search methodology that allows users to create new knowledge paths on the web based on their specific requirements. Thus…

Web crawling dla celów lingwistycznych. Wybrane aspekty gromadzenia i analizy danych tekstowych na przykładzie rosyjskojęzycznych newsów internetowych

2021

Uusliberalismin aika : Suomen veropolitiikka vuosina 1987-2007 oikeudenmukaisuuden ja tehokkuuden valossa

2015

Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan Suomen veropolitiikan muutosta vuosien 1987–2007 aikana. Määrällisen analyysin aineistoksi on aikaisempaan tutkimukseen nojautuen tunnistettu viisi ilmiötä. Ilmiöiden kuvaamiseen käytän kuutta indikaattoria, joista neljä olen konstruoinut tätä tutkimusta varten. Indikaattorianalyysi sisältää indikaattorien analysointia yksittäin…

Newborn crawling and rooting in response to maternal breast odor

2021

International audience; A growing literature shows that perception and action are already tightly coupled in the newborn. The current study aimed to examine the nature of the coupling between olfactory stimuli from the mother and the newborn's crawling and rooting (exploratory movements of the head). To examine the coupling, the crawling and rooting behavior of 28 2-day-old newborns were studied while they were supported prone on a mobility device shaped like a mini skateboard, the Crawliskate®, their head positioned directly on top of a pad infused with either their mother's breast odor (Maternal) or the odor of water (Control). Video and 3D kinematic analyses of the number and types of li…

CRAWLING - A SOLUTION FOR EFFICIENT E-GOVERNMENT. STUDY ON ANTI-COUNTERFEITING TRADE AGREEMENT (ACTA) FOCUSED ON SOCIAL MEDIA

2012

The applicability of Web 2.0 as an e-Government tool is still a fully unexploited area due to the software novelty in this regard and the lack of commitment of public bodies. The current paper sets out to offer a solution to acknowledge information of public interest that might be of use to an e-Citizen. Currently, social networks have proven useful in keeping in touch with friends, research, collaboration and political activism. Data mining through social network is a relatively new subject, which has been intensely approached by researchers as of late. The results presented in the current paper have been obtained using a crawler on Twitter.
